I’m going to take advantage of the Rocketmiles deal, although I think they’re being a bit shady about it.
I’ve been watching rooms in Vancouver trying to decide if I should book with Rocketmiles (miles) or Hotels.com (17% rebate when stacking TopCashback and Welcome Rewards). The price of rooms has been stable, but the number of miles has fluctuated quite a bit this week. At the Sheraton, for example, one night started out at 4K miles, then dropped to 3.5K yesterday, and is now up to 5K. Since 5K includes the double miles promotion, that means they dropped the base rate to 2.5K before starting the promo. Yes, technically it may be double the miles, but it’s really only a 20% bonus compared to what they were offering a few days ago.
Like I said, it’s a good promo and they’re getting my business, but I think they’re being a bit deceptive.
That Spirit link does show that the airline can be a very good value if you know what to expect (and can live with that level of service) AND you game their system.
I have flown Spirit on short notice from the Northeast to Florida for less than $60 roundtrip. It wasn’t pleasant, but not terrible either. I ALWAYS look for other alternatives to flying Spirit, and at least 95% of the time I find one. But if I really needed/wanted to take a trip and everyone else has nosebleed level fares, I’d fly Spirit again.
@iahphx – bingo – I am glad that Spirit exists. I don’t want to fly them.
