I’m not much of a Marriott guy, sure they’re ubiquitous and there are plenty of decent lounges. But even for Platinums — the most stringent tier to reach of any hotel loyalty program top level — there aren’t promises of suite upgrades the way one finds with Intercontinental Royal Ambassador, Hyatt Diamond, and Starwood Platinum.
Still, these cards offer a real head start towards status. They underscore the continued growing importance of co-branded credit cards, not just for airlines but also hotels. And also the shrinking elite ranks over the past year with the economy, and thus the relaxed maner in which that status can be earned.

@bobaloo — but the card itself comes with nights before any spend. I was talking about getting all three cards for the nights and then adding on spend. Is my math off?
any chance that starwood follows suit and offer platnum status with credit card spend opposed to stays. That would be a dream come true.
I thought that the bonus elite nights were not cumulative across multiple credit cards rather maximum 15 nights from Premier Visa. That is unless that has now changed.
75 nights for Plat minus 35 for simply having the cards (if they are combinable) would leave 40 nights to make up for with spend. 40 x $3k would be $120,000 I think.
