  1. The EVA flight seems to have hit turbulence during meal service. I have always worried about turbulence at that time. Fortunately I have never been in a severe event that throws the food around. I suppose it is a good thing to eat fairly quickly so as to have only empty containers to be tossed around. One person seems to have been able to save their drink.

“Thought leadership” or just link aggregation / engagement bait?

  3. Oh my (reaction to multiple items).

PS – in case it is useful to anyone, I saw Ethiad is 15x on Rakuten today for Cyber Monday

  4. I would like to push back on the climate change causing the increase of events since 1979. There is just a percentage increase …. yet this doesnt account for the sheer increase in the number of aircraft in the air. The absolute increase would no doubt go up just because of the increase in aircraft in the air since 1979.

No one likes to report the incidents per flight or ASM…..which hasnt increased at all…in fact has decreased over the years.

Just be honest about the reporting of stats….

  5. Regarding the insider trading story. In 2010, the SEC charged two railyard employees of the Florida East Coast Railway with insider trading prior to a merger offer for the company. The employees had noticed groups of people in business suits being given tours of the railyard and deduced that the company was up for sale and the groups were prospective buyers on inspection tours.
Jury Verdict: Following a trial in 2014, a federal jury found the defendants not liable for violating securities laws. The defense successfully argued that the employees were trading on a “hunch” or “mosaic” of observations and rumors, not a direct tip of confidential, nonpublic information. The information was potentially observable by others, and the jury determined the observations did not necessarily constitute information that should prevent them from trading.

  6. @Jerry 329. Thanks! One of the most interesting and thoughtful comments I’ve seen in a while.

  7. What Ron said:

“Between AirBnB, VEBO, Marriot, and IHG, you may as well sleep in your car or at the airport”

  8. @Thing 1 — Wow, you’re far too easily entertained. Try reading more synopses of cases. Will blow your mind. *whoosh*

  9. More climate change nonsense. 55% increase in incidents, but there’s been a 5-6x increase in passenger miles flown, and 3x in flights. So actually the incidents have decreased dramatically. When climate change is mentioned, it’s 100% always a lie.

  10. @1990. It’s called being polite and positive. I know, crazy idea. Try it some time — it will blow your mind.

  11. ABnB says you can’t check in til 1500-1600 PM to give the previous vacationer time to clean the place but be out by 1000-1100!!!
