Act Fast: Fiji Airways New Non-Stop Dallas-Fiji Flight Has Great Business Class Award Space

Fiji Airways, which is becoming a full oneworld member and adopting American’s AAdvantage as its loyalty program, launches non-stop service from Dallas – Fort Worth to Nadi, Fiji on December 10. And like many new flights, it has loaded into the schedule with outstanding award availability. I would pounce on this opportunity quickly.

The flight operates three times a week using an Airbus A350-900 on the following schedule:

    Nadi – Dallas, 9:15 p.m. – 3:20 p.m., Fiji Airways 890
    Dallas – Nadi, 9:55 p.m. – 5:20 a.m.+2, Fiji Airways 891

Starting December 31, there is fantastic award availability for business class seats on this flight. Operated by an Airbus A350, it features Fiji Airways’ new business class which is very nice. Most days that the flight operates have award availability for two or more passengers in business.

Availability is actually almost as good when searching for four business class award seats.

Booking options:

  • Alaska Airlines: 75,000 miles each way for this flight. Their award chart is distance-based, so additional flights can push up the cost. Bilt points transfer to Alaska.
  • American Airlines: 80,000 miles each way for this flight, including connecting space to and from Dallas. You can also book this as a connection onward to Australia or New Zealand.
  • British Airways: 92,750 Avios each way plus surcharges of about $25 to Fiji and nearly $200 on the return. American Express, Chase, Capital One, and Bilt all transfer to BA.
  • Qantas: 94,900 points each way plus surcharges. American Express, Capital One, and Citi all transfer to Qantas, and Capital One currently has a 20% transfer bonus.

Even if you’re not interested in Fiji, this can be paired with onward connecting flights to Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra) and New Zealand (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington).

  1. I looked up what options I’d have if my flight to DFW was late on my way to AKL in November. The next DFW-AKL flight was 48 hours later. AA could get me there 28 or so hours late in two ways. I could fly DFW-SYD-AKL on QF. The other option was DFW-LAX-NAN-AKL. And, of course, there would be no guarantee of J availability. When my flight was moved earlier AA did not give me the next flight (which had space), but the last of the day giving me a 70 minute connection time. I was surprised I could fix this for free online. I would be charged for the fare difference. So, I called. I’ll gladly leave earlier and spend time in the DFW lounge. But, I’ll mi’s a chance to say I’d been to Fiji.

  2. I wish I had seen this post before leaving home.

Unfortunately, I didn’t, and the availability is now gone. Oh well, I’ll keep an eye open in any case.

  3. @Jon I’m with you. I usually check the blogs regularly and for some reason didn’t today. Kicking myself as the J pairs are dried up now. 🙁

  4. Got May 27 DFW-NAN for 2 Business Class. I know they just leaded the schedule and alloted some award space. Hopefully Ill find a way home via AKL, SYD or NAN on any program.

  5. Fiji Airways caveat emptor

Sorry this is Long: We took Fiji Airway Business class from LAX-NAN-KDV June 21st as a Tabau club member.
We arrived at LAX at 2PM given the next connection would be tight and moved from the AA terminal to Bradley and found a seat, at 15:30 we get at text and email from Fiji Airways that out flight is delayed 18 hours (4PM Saturday). I immediately call the #800 and they are mostly clueless about the flight and are totally clueless when I ask about a hotel voucher. Basically, they tell me we are on our own which and the Contract of Carriage does not require them to pay even though it was their mechanically issue. We all know that this is a lie. I call, and get a hotel nearby and we head to the hotel. Once there I get notifications of our rebooking to KDV on Wednesday even though we arrive Sunday night late. I call Fiji Airways again and find that they are booked solid to KDV Monday and have no flights to KDV Tuesday. I asked about the hotel the night of the 21st in LAX and hotel in NAN Sunday-Wednesday. They tell me we are on our own again. I decided to book my own charter to the place we are going to 1.5-hour boat ride from KDV. Saturday 22nd arrive at the airport for check in and find out if we had stayed until at the airport until Friday at 18:30 (no 1 told us) we would have gotten hotel vouchers and $70s in meal per diem. WHAT!!! I write Fiji Airways and get no response and no response from manager at checkin. In flight service is really really good, comfortable beds just nice people and apologies given multiple times. Get to NAN and again, in Business Class and Tabau club member and get meet and greet and ask for hotel voucher and taxi payment. Again, we are not required to give you this. It is late and we have early AM charter. Paid for the hotel and charter as we were not going to lose 3 days of vacation. So we get back 7/7 KDV-NAN-LAX no problems, and I put on a full court press to get paid for hotel in LAX and NAN and taxi both ways in NAN and per diem and refund on NAN-KDV for my wife and I. On 7/10 after much back and forth and sending receipts 3x they finally agreed to a refund via wire transfer, but it takes 21 days. August 1, I write and ask where is the money? Response we will check into it. August 5th, I write again and finally get a response saying I will be paid by the 9th nada. Wrote them again, but it is time to let everyone know how things are a Fiji Airways!
Fiji Airway is great if things go right but when they do not, they are completely incompetent. I am out for the hotels and per diem at over $850 not even counting the charter. If flying to Fiji from the USA consider that your choices are direct flights from LAX and SFO and Fiji Airways at about 11+ hours or Quantas to Syndey and back or Air New Zealand to Aukland and back at more like 18+ of travel time. The choices are not great! We loved Fiji, but Fiji Airways is horrible (maybe worse that horrible) when things do not go right.

  6. My Advantage account does not show any Fiji Airways flights. Where do find that mileage search screen?
