New variable Air France points pricing is live and often makes no sense. Some awards are more expensive, some less expensive. Instead of a hidden award chart they have a calculator.
It’s interesting how this plays out with their promo awards, which are now out for booking now if you want to travel October 31 – December 30.
Historically one of the great values in the Air France KLM Flying Blue program, has been their ‘promo awards’ — a rotating set of cities for discounted travel. You can fly from any featured city through Paris (if Air France) or Amsterdam (if KLM) to anywhere in Europe for fewer miles.
Once upon a time they were an amazing value, one way business class was normally 50,000 miles and selected cities were 50% off. More recently the ‘normal’ cost has been 62,500 miles and the discounts have been smaller. And now each route has its own pricing that seems to defy logic, but that is sometimes lower though often higher than before. Flights beyond Paris or Amsterdam will have different pricing, too.

Perhaps the most interesting for many readers is New York JFK – Paris Orly for 22,750 miles each way in premium economy.
There’s also Mexico City and Toronto at 50% off as well.
Routes are often discounted when flights aren’t full, suggesting that there should be good availability which is what we’re seeing for New York JFK – Paris Orly premium economy.
You can connect elsewhere in Europe if you wish. American Express, Chase, and Citibank points all transfer to Flying Blue.
