News and notes from around the interweb:
- Denver airport, well-known for security checkpoints melting down and TSA screeners abusing passengers, is looking for a new Director of Airport Security (HT: Brendan K.) They are not, however, considering the superior San Francisco airport model (and for that matter, how things are done throughout Canada and much of Europe) where the same agency isn’t responsible for regulating the checkpoints and also manning them — a conflict of interest which is the root cause of much of the problems.
- National Car Rental is emailing members that ONE TWO FREE is about to return. In past years they’ve offered a free rental day after two rentals of two days or more, and done so for five months at a time. This is the most generous regular rental car promotion, since it’s on top of usual earning.
Your ONE TWO FREE invitation is on its way.
ONE TWO FREE® 2016 is just around the corner. Watch for your email invitation and be sure to register.
- 9 things you will never find at airports again (HT: Robb)
- Etihad has eliminated complimentary car service for partner award tickets issued August 10 or later. I’m genuinely surprised it took this long, but I’ve appreciated it on business and first class AAdvantage awards for the past several years for sure (both departing and arriving!).
- My take on American’s expansion of free inflight entertainment winds up in the Gulliver column at The Economist.
- Starbucks and Lyft have a new partnership. You earn Starbucks stars for morning commute Lyft rides (an ungenerous 1/25th of a coffee per ride) and get a $5 Starbucks gift card per $20 Lyft card you buy at Starbucks. That’s a good discount on Lyft, and also signals likely more gift cards available on the aftermarket for less than face value going forward.
Thanks
