Buy Hilton HHonors Points 50% Discount

Recently Hilton HHonors was running a bonus on purchased Hilton points through October 21. That was extended through October 31.

And now it’s back through December 5.

Hilton usually charges a penny apiece for points, so with this bonus is selling points for half a cent each. Their recent promotional pricing is tied for the cheapest I’ve ever seen (in June 2015 they offered a 100% bonus on purchased points, and a few months back they ran 50% off). They’re selling points for just about what they’re worth.

Hilton will let you buy up to 160,000 points per year. With this bonus, you can do that at a price of $0.005 per point. I value Hilton points at $0.004, since I can pretty much always get half a cent in value at least from Hilton points and I have a preference for holding cash.

Conrad New York

You can really stretch Hilton points for their lower-tier redemptions. A category 1 property is 5000 points, with 5th night free for elites, so a 5 night stay averages 4000 points per night or ~$22. (There aren’t many of these in the U.S…)

You won’t get bonus points for paying for purchased Hilton HHonors points with a Hilton co-brand credit card, as the purchase is processed by points.com rather than Hilton.

I’m close to a buyer of Hilton points at half a cent apiece.

  1. Hilton’s promotion is to Buy and to Give points at 50% discount. So, a couple can ultimately get 320K point for $1600 into one account.

I believe now that there’s only one: a Hampton Inn at the Columbus, OH airport!

While I enjoy my HHonors points, I don’t think I’d be a buyer at even .04 cents each. Cash would still be more valuable: there are almost always alternatives to Hilton hotels. I think .035 would be a logical purchase price for any true value in the transaction.

  3. @iahphx using purchased points will be more “profitable” for high category properties and high-season.

I will use purchased points for high-season stay in category 9 property. 60K point per night with 5th night free will becomes 51K points per night.

Cash price (cheapest/none-refundable): $411.34 per night including tax
Using points (refundable): $255.00 per night with NO tax
My saving: $938.05 — 6 nights at $156.34 saving per night

  4. I think the point of the post was not to encourage us to buy points. BAsed on the lack of responses, I think the point of the post to to have new readers and new members of this hobby get Hillton credit cards by using the above link.

  5. @dhammer53 there is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing tricks of the trade and making some money doing it.

I know I picked up lots of interesting ways to stretch my budget and travel twice a year with my family (in addition to short trips with my wife) for free or almost free.

  6. Instructions to Maximize: Get the no annual fee card. Add spouse as AU . Buy 160k points for $800 (earning 2.4k points) using the new card. Spouse gift 160k points to you at cost of $800 (earning 2.4k points) using the new AU card. Spend just $400 more, earning 1.2k points. Then you earn 75k bonus for meeting the spend requirement.

Starting from nothing, you’d have 401k points good for a 4 + 1free = 5 Night Cat 10 stay worth $1000/night at the best Hilton has to offer.

$1600 for a $5000 Resort stay is not too bad. (plus the other $400 buying groceries or whatever)
