The best thing about this campaign is that Southwest is investing heavily in ‘transfarency’ — no fees for changes, checked bags — suggesting that they aren’t about to kill that model with their new software which would more easily allow pre-assigned seats (and seat fees) and more.

Catch Me If You Can! 19 Year Old Fake Airline Pilot Scams 50 People
A 19 year old created a fake ID as a Singapore Airlines co-pilot in order to impress and scam 50 people in Hong Kong.
The man has been released on bail and, I suspect, now pretending to be either a doctor or a lawyer. The case is being investigated by Tom Hanks.

A Goat Tried to Check Into a Massachusetts Hotel Last Week and Police Responded
Goats play a very special role in the travel industry.
Last year an airport security goat got loose on a runway and forced an Airbus A319 to abort its landing. And in late 2015 flatulence from 2186 goats forced a Singapore Airlines plane to make an emergency landing. Chicago O’Hare, by the way, uses goats to clear airfield brush.

One Marriott Makes Tipping Mandatory By Charging Extra for Housekeeping
Did you know that it’s possible to pay Marriott a room rate that doesn’t include housekeeping? It’s worse than an airline’s Basic Economy where you can pay for a seat without advance seat assignment or carry on bag, because housekeeping is still provided it’s just charged separately.
This isn’t like Starwood’s “Make a Green Choice” where you give up daily housekeeping in exchange for points. Your rate includes housekeeping but you can save the hotel money and receive a portion of the savings back. Instead you just pay more.

Why London’s Uber Ban is a Disaster for Britain
Uber is still operating in London, but their license to continue to do so expires at the end of the month and it’s been announced that it will not be renewed.
To be clear Uber can appeal, and the regulatory decision spells out concerns that Uber will no doubt offer to placate, but the process wasn’t to judiciously negotiate with Uber it was to dramatically drop the hammer.
