Every Valentine’s Day shopping portal offers get pretty big for Valentine’s-related gifts like flowers. It’s been true almost forever.
The usual ‘big boost’ is earning 30 miles per dollar, which is a pretty good rebate for miles often worth about 1.5 cents apiece (a 45% rebate on the base price of flowers, but not really that big when you factor shipping which doesn’t earn miles).
That should tell you something about the margins on flowers, you may get a better deal through a local florist, and none of these deals are good enough that you want to be buying flowers just for the miles.
Although you’re getting miles for what many airlines sell them for when there’s no bonus or discount running and you get flowers. In other words you need to value the flowers for this to make sense. But if you’re going to send flowers ‘the easy way’ you might as well get big miles for doing so.
- American AAdvantage: 30 miles per dollar at FTD
- United MileagePlus: 30 miles per dollar at either FTD or 1-800-Flowers
- Delta SkyMiles: 30 miles per dollar at FTD
- Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles: 30 miles per dollar at 1-800-Flowers
In addition Southwest Airlines has a flat 1000 Rapid Rewards points for spending $29.99 or more (plus shipping) at 1-800-Flowers. That’s a pretty good $14 rebate especially if you can keep your total cost as close to $30 as possible.
wow you ripped all 5 of those from milenerd & wrote it like it was your post.
@John No, I did not. No one is better at attribution than I am when I receive info from someone (unless they ask not to be named) or if I write about something prompted by someone else’s post.
Thanks for the link
Is there some sort of promotion code for this?
I clicked the link., it does say 30 miles per dollar but once I get to the shopping portal and login it states
“Welcome American Airlines AAdvantage® Members.
Earn 20 Miles per $1 spent.”
WHAT A GREAT DEAL:
Buy 110 orders of the 1 pound fannie may chocolates boxes for $3329 with the shipping.
Ship them all to yourself.
You get 110,000 points plus a Companion pass. That’s $1540 in value x 2 at Wanna Get Away Fares
assuming you only use the points and don’t buy any travel.
Then you get 20% celebration rewards through the 14th, so roughly another 21 boxes of chocolates.
Going based on the nutrition information I could find, there’s 1980 calories in a box of these.
If you add all 134 boxes of chocolates to your regular diet, you’d gain 75 pounds based on a rough 3500 calories per pound..
BUT WAIT, IT GETS BETTER: You now qualify for the Southwest Persons of Size policy. So, you can buy two tickets and get a rebate for the second, essentially creating your own domestic first class seat.
GLAD TO BE OF HELP!!
