Earn Triple Amex Membership Rewards Points at Restaurants

American Express is offering triple points at US restaurants through the end of the year to select (targeted) customers. Registration required, and if you haven’t received anything from American Express it seems worth it to me to click the link and log into your account to see if you’re eligible.

I don’t know the targeting criteria, and I wasn’t eligible, but I have to imagine that they’re testing member engagement to see how popular a benefit this is and what it does to spend so that they can game plan the effects to see if it is a benefit that could make sense for one of their products.

You can receive 3X Membership Rewards points when you use your enrolled Card to make a purchase at qualifying U.S. Restaurants between 10/1/2014 and 12/31/2014. You can receive a maximum of 10,000 points per program account. Terms and limitations apply.

  1. No luck for me either. Would be nice to make it more temping to pull out an AMEX instead of my CSP all the time. Oh well, I’ll keep racking up UR.

  2. Thanks for the reminder on this. I did receive the offer, although my wife did not. Out of five AMEX cards I have only my Premier Rewards card was eligible.

Do you have any thoughts on actual value of using this through the end of the year versus using the Chase Sapphire? Normally I would be putting all dining on the Sapphire card.

  3. Hi Gary, I found your notice on Lucky’s website and I was also ineligible. I’ll call Amex tomorrow to find out why I was excluded from this opportunity and find out what application process or criteria might be required to take advantage of this offer. I’m happy to spend a few hours going up the Amex customer service ladder in the hopes of securing this privilege tomorrow. I am happy to navigate their appeal channels if it works. 4. I got an email a couple days ago from Amex, specifically notifying me that my card is eligible for 2X Membership Rewards points, but when I follow the link and log in, I get a message telling me I am NOT eligible. Whaaat? Why email me and tell me I can enroll my eligible card then tell me I’m not eligible? When I called Membership Rewards to see why, the lady couldn’t find anything then told me it was probably spam. Not spam – the message came directly from Amex, with a link that leads right to my login page. I’m not impressed, but don’t care to spend more hours on the phone with them, fighting the issue.

  5. I got the offer but it was only for 2X. Read the terms REAL close because it states that if you take the offer “You also will NOT receive additional rewards at nightclubs, convenience stores, grocery stores, or supermarkets.” So in reality one may be giving up the 3X supermarket if they are not maxed out on that by now. Choose wisely!
