British Airways is offering triple points on your first 8 flights taken by March 31. Registration required.

This is valid for new itineraries booked and flown starting January 5 (or actually starting today if you are registered outside the UK, Ireland and US).

You’ll earn triple points on all British Airways flights and on British Airways codeshares for transatlantic travel on American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia (BA’s revenue-sharing joint venture partners) plus Comair flights within South Africa. This includes OpenSkies flights between New York and Paris.

[Y]ou will receive triple Avios when you fly with our partners American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia, only on flights between Europe and North America and where the flight has a BA prefix flight number.

You will also receive triple Avios on all domestic and regional BA (operated by Comair) flights within South Africa.

These are triple base points so, for instance, elite bonuses aren’t tripled. Here’s the standard earning for British Airways flights:

With this offer the absolute cheapest economy fares earn 75% of flown miles instead of 25%. Many discount economy fares earn 150% of flown miles instead of 50%. Discount business class, such as BA’s cheap sale fares, will earn 450% of flown miles.

Since triple points are available only on your first 8 segments through March 31, you may wish to be strategic about what you credit to the British Airways Executive Club program. For instance if you had short haul intra-Europe segments booked you might credit them elsewhere, holding out for long haul flights say between the US West Coast and London, London and Asia, or to Africa.

British Airways Avios aren’t worth what they once were even accounting for the fact that they aren’t worth what they once were (even Hitler didn’t like the changes) and that’s after their becoming less valuable than before. Triple points about brings them back to par for flights the next three months.
