News and notes from around the interweb:
- If nothing else, Carly Fiorina may win the flight attendant vote. US Airways flight attendants seemed to like her yesterday.
- Airport parking meets.. pet boarding. All in one. Come summer 2016, Austin airport will have a combination “Park ‘n Zoom – Bark ‘n Zoom” What other two great tastes taste great together?
- How to attend United’s family day open house in San Francisco next month
- 10 suggestions for saving money at the Park Hyatt Maldives. It’s my favorite resort, but there are 5 reasons you may not even like it.
- Washington’s Dulles and National airports have new Uber and Lyft regulations going into effect November 1. That largely means they’ve agreed to call Uber legal, and extract new fees. And as consumers we should somehow thank the airports authority for giving us this ‘new’ option (that I’ve been taking to and from National airport for 3.5 years).
“For passengers at Reagan National and Dulles International, this change means they will see a broader variety of ground-transportation options quickly and readily available,” says Margaret McKeough, airports authority executive vice president and COO. “The new regulations are the result of months of study, public input and review in order to determine how best to provide our passengers with access to these new ground transportation options they desire, while ensuring the airport operates effectively and equitably for everyone.”
- What does the TSA think now that instructions on creating master keys for TSA approved luggage locks are so readily available?
The reported ability to create keys for TSA-approved suitcase locks from a digital image does not create a threat to aviation security..These consumer products are ‘peace of mind’ devices, not part of TSA’s aviation security regime
Yeah, Carly will hire Flight Attendants from India or China because they are better educated than Americans. And in the end she will get extra for her pay for the salary cuts she made so she can get rid of all the wrinkles she is so proud.
Uh, luggage security is a farce anyway – the fake security you had with a TSA lock is now gone? OH NO. The guy stealing from you _already_ works for the TSA or the airlines. So they _already_ have the keys. Otherwise, the lock helps how? Versus a regular lock the TSA will close it for you, so your bag doesn’t pop open accidentally. But an actual luggage thief who stole your bag? Certainly they would not be capable of cutting off the paperclip-thick lock. Or they could use a knife? Give me a break.
So amazingly enough I’m with the TSA here – a lock on a piece of luggage has nothing to do with security. Literally, nothing (i.e. same contribution to security as the TSA screening procedures). Your luggage is as as secure as the honesty of the people handling it behind the scenes, and as secure as the physical places it sits out in the open (i.e. theft from the carrousel). Beyond that, nothing else matters.
The only time I’ve had stuff stolen from my bag during handling was when I used a TSA lock. The lock was cut and placed inside. I figured the lock attracted the bag handler thief so I have never used them since…
Flew from SNN to JFK last week-TSA lock disappeared off my bag.
