Fly Premium Economy to Europe for Less than Coach, and Stack With Amex Savings

The cheapest coach roundtrips between New York and London on Virgin Atlantic are running $658 – $780 per person depending on the day of travel.

Meanwhile Premium Economy is available for the same price or less, it’s $658 even when coach is more.

Take for instance these flights on November 15-20 in economy for $780:

Interestingly it’s a base fare of $75 in each direction, what drives the price here are fuel surcharges and the UK’s departure tax (which is higher for premium economy than for coach). The fuel surcharges on this fare are lower than they are on the coach fare.

The exact same flights are $122 cheaper in premium economy than they are in coach.

Here’s Virgin Atlantic’s premium economy service:

This deal is via Duke787 who points out that this deal is available from other East Coast Virgin Atlantic cities as well, for instance I’ve found it from Washington Dulles.

For those crediting to SkyMiles, Virgin Atlantic premium economy K fares earn 125% flown miles and even more – 150% – elite qualifying miles.

At a distance of 6903 miles roundtrip for New York JFK – London, that means over 8600 redeemable miles, over 10,000 elite qualifying miles, and over $1700 elite qualifying dollars.

This gets even better. If you’re buying two tickets, you can get $200 back.

Many people have an ‘Amex Offer’ in their account to get a $200 rebate on $1000 spend with Virgin Atlantic. I have it on my Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express but not other cards. Remember that you’ll need to log in and add it to your account before making your purchase on Virgin Atlantic’s website.

Get a 1X $200 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $1000+ on airfare only online at virginatlantic.com by 11/6/16. Purchase must be made on Virgin Atlantic’s US website. Flight must originate in US. See terms for full exclusions.
