News and notes from around the interweb:
- Only 10% – 15% of passengers on American’s transatlantic flights from Philadelphia originate there. File that away and pull it back out when future schedule changes get announced.
- For bookings through October 16 Malaysia Airlines is discounting Kuala Lumpur – London awards ~ 70% in all classes of service. Malaysia is a Citi transfer partner.
- Icelandair stopover buddies are back
- National Car Rental is offering elite status matches (HT: Loyalty Lobby)
- “Clearly there is a consistency issue at Masa” The author is modest about their experience with Japanese omakase dining, but he’s been to Jiro’s…
- Blogger Matthew Klint does a great job discussing United’s stealth award redemption devaluation on Fox News Happening Now yesterday.
- Airlines add ‘fire containment bags’ for overheating phones (HT: Jeff M.)
AA TATL ex-PHL is an absolute disaster, revenue-wise, I definitely expect more cuts.
The stealth de-hubbing of PHL is underway, not much of a surprise there. When PR has to reassure the city and customers they’re not de-hubbing, that’s not a good sign and (see PIT, CVG, etc) rarely a truthful statement. PHX is next.
Does that mean the Zurich and Brussels flights are gone for good?
I am amused at the review of MASA to which you refer, Gary. I have come to a conclusion about eating out in New York (as a New Yorker):
– It is wildly overpriced at the middle and high end, pretty much compared to any other major city in the world; and
– there is rarely a correlation between price and quality except at a handful of the very top tier restaurants.
Having just returned from France, for example, I ate many meals that could easily compete with some of our two to three star restaurants in New York, at less than one third of the price. Unfortunately, like real estate in this city, eating out at the high end has become a “trophy” experience – a way to show sophistication or status, with very little regard to actual value.
Hi, friendly Icelander here. Just saw that you linked to the stopover buddies with Icelandair.
Me and my best friend are trying to establish our company in Iceland to be able to do what we love everyday. Things are going slowly but our customers love our services on TripAdvisor. We love to meet up with travelers and give the best info from the locals point of view.
Get in touch via our website if you need any information about Iceland, no need to buy anything form us, we know how good the feeling is to find a good local to talk to and we have been very fortunate during our travel to be able to get the local insight. You experience the country through its nature and the locals.
For those interested I’ll leave a link to our website and blog, http://www.goldencircledaytours.com
Get in touch for the local insight before you visit Iceland, sharing our information about Iceland in general is what we love to do! Nothing better then a nice local to talk to in a new place 🙂
