- This seems really really far-fetched to me. American would have no connecting feed on the other end. It’s an ultra long haul route, the kind American has mostly avoided. And it’s generally low yield. If it turns out to be true it’d be a good indication they’re out of ideas.

Maybe there are subsidies somewhere that makes it make sense (Manila). That’s often the explanation with seemingly illogical price structure.

The Manila destination may not be so farfetched if you consider that there is a sizable Philippine market in LA.
It also signals to me that there really is significant progress into Philippine Airline’s talks to join an alliance, in this case oneworld.
