The Hyatt Regency Nice is an historical landmark, with its iconic 1929 Art Deco façade. It’s a World of Hyatt category 7 hotel, so 25,000 – 35,000 points per night. In-seat you’ll see rates around $700 for a base room, so peak can be a great deal on points. In low seaon the lower price point – around 200 euros – can make cash the better deal.
It’s right on the Promenade des Anglais, adjacent to Plage de Carras, a 10 min walk to Old Nice and 10 minute drive from the airport. After my flight to Nice on Volotea I spent four nights here.
Check-in was friendly and quick, at least considering that they had to take copies of all of our passports which is a standard practice around the world but one I’ve never loved (and remember the Marriott passport data breach).
I’d booked a standard room with confirmed suite upgrade, which yielded a sea view on the fourth floor; essentially a regular room with adjoining second room (but only one bathroom). Some guests have confirmed better, further upgrades but I got what I booked.
The bathroom was separated into two rooms, with a separate door to the toilet room which was convenient – having one person in the family using the toilet didn’t keep everyone out of the rest of the bathroom.
The hotel had reached out in advance asking about any preferences for welcome amenity, and I let them know I tended to prefer anything that would delight the kids. One of the items, not pictured here, was a small plush toy for my one year old.
Globalists receive the breakfast buffet, but can also take their breakfast benefit via room service. The buffet offers a nice sea view and is bountiful – made to order egg station plus bacon and sausage; cheeses; waffles; pancakes; breads; fruit; guacamole; sardines; any number of things plus plenty of juice and your choice of coffees delivered. Sadly service here is quite bad. I’d order coffee and wouldn’t come. I’d order it again and the wrong coffee would get delivered. Flagging someone down was often a challenge.
While I had a balcony and could have enjoyed the view with room service, and usually prefer room service by a lot over restaurant breakfast (and always when traveling solo), it gave us something to do in the morning with the kids to go down to the restaurant and we ate breakfast there each morning of our four night stay. The buffet did not vary at all, though, over the course of our four mornings.
Outside of breakfast I thought that the staff were really friendly and excellent. The hotel has an indoor/outdoor pool on the same level as the restaurant along with a gym, sauna, steam room, and casino.
In the evening there was a singer in the restaurant, but it didn’t go past 9 p.m. Some folks enjoyed the show from their balconies, while I enjoyed that it ended early enough not to be a disturbance.
I’d say that the hotel’s decor and interiors feels somewhat dated and my room felt very much like a Hyatt Regency that could have been anyway. The bed was good and blackout shades excellent.
But given the beachfront location and that the room was large, plus good food and overall pleasant ambiance I’m not sure I’d rate any Hyatt Regency other than the property in Danang more highly?
Hyatt Regency Bangkok…
That’s really …. Nice!
Couple more tips from a recent visit – we found the room service breakfast was better quality than the buffet, and the air conditioning is very powerful (not to be underrated in Nice during a heat wave). Would return – great property.
I was there in July. Truly exquisite hotel given its proximity to Old Town, the promenade and the beach. Loved every minute of my stay… more so than the Hotel Martinez in Cannes.
