How To Knock 10% Off The Price Of Any Hotel

I receive compensation for content and many links on this blog. American Express, Citibank, Chase, Capital One and other banks are advertising partners of this site. Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Competition in the hotel booking space is really heating up, and that’s a good thing. Hotel chains want you to think that booking directly through them gives you the lowest price, but that’s often not true.

  • Hotels want to earn the most money they can which sometimes means giving discounts to some guests that they hope aren’t available to other guests willing to pay more.
  • So you may find lower rates through brick and morter travel agencies focused on specific ethnic markets, or through online travel sites geared outside a hotel’s home country.

There are restrictions in place to try to prevent those rates from ‘leaking’ availability to the general public. However many sites do access wholesale rates, and are in control of how much commission they take versus lower prices to the customer.

One method of offering these is through a membership site like Club1 Hotels that hotel chains aren’t going to be willing to match their own rates against via a Best Rate Guarantee.

Club1 has long offered readers of this blog free memberships. They don’t always beat direct prices, but frequently they do. It’s worth signing up while the free membership offer runs and keeping it in your arsenal to check pricing. I have a reader that’s saved a ton (thousands) on Hyatt all-inclusives.

A couple of examples vs Expedia for a one night stay in May:

  • Intercontinental Park Lane $366 on Club1 vs $537 Expedia
  • Upper House Hong Kong $673 vs $815 Expedia

They’ve also got a $300 savings on a night at the Trump International, which will either really appeal to you or repulse you depending.

Of course booking through third parties may not earn points, receive elite credit, or program benefits – so the savings needs to justify that loss. Since Club1 really wants you to see that they’ll deliver you savings big enough to justify that, they reached out to offer readers 10% off any hotel, car or activity booked through their site.

  • Valid for bookings made by December 21
  • Use promo code VFTW1219

They believe they’ll beat any other price, and they guarantee that. And that’s true even before the extra 10% off they’ll give you.

Guaranteed Savings on Every Reservation
We guarantee our members the best rates every time! While we work hard to ensure we provide the best rates, there will be instances when better hotel or cruise rates are offered elsewhere.

If you do find a better rate for the same hotel, room type and rate type (refundable or non-refundable), we want to beat that rate by:

$10 per night guaranteed savings at 3-star hotels up to $20
$15 per night guaranteed savings at 4-star hotels up to $45
$20 per night guaranteed savings at 5-star hotels up to $60 or up to $100 on reservations $900 or more
If you find a better rate for the same cruise cabin, we will beat that rate by up to 5%!

Their Senior Vice President of Distribution tells me they’ve “added over 272,000 new hotel wholesale contracts over the past 3 weeks” and they guarantee savings on pretty much every booking.

Access to wholesale rates, a best rate guarantee, and 10% off of that makes it worth poking around this week for potential big hotel savings.

  1. “How To Knock 10% Off The Price Of Any Hotel”

Should probably say “How To Knock 10% Off The Price Of Any Hotel on Club1”. A good number of hotels are not on the website so your title is a bit misleading.

  2. I joined a few years ago and have had great luck with them. We’ve booked 4 All inclusives in Cancun and saved a ton. We’ve books some Disney/Universal hotels too and saved decent dough.

Their website definitely has its issues. For example, searching for locations Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, and Cancun will show same hotels…but with completely different pricing.
I’ve always going their customer service good.

  3. I recently had good luck arriving late at night at an international chain hotel in West Africa and just asking for the best possible discount. I was very polite and patient and they found me an ethnic ie local resident discount. Even though I was not of that country’s ethnicity nor was I a local resident they kindly offered me that rate, which was nearly 40% less than the rate I saw on the website and various other websites before walking in the door.

    It doesn’t hurt to ask

  4. I did a trial for that other site you recommended Wayfarer Points. It was a terrible site. The interface was so bad and the “savings” were non-existant. I had to put down my credit card for the trial and there is no way to cancel the trial online. In the end, they charged me $69. I am really disappointed you recommended that site.

  5. Club1 has been great for me personally – I generally don’t stay at chains unless using points, nor do I have elite status anyway. Their prices on high end properties and suites can’t be touched.

The website is not great, but customer service via email has always been prompt and efficient. I always check them before booking anywhere.
