Hyatt is back with the same promotion they offered April through June just with a different name. Instead of ‘Stay More Play More’ this one is called ‘More Points More Play’.
Park Hyatt New York
Registration begins September 1, and stays September 1 through November 30 will earn incrementally more bonus points — up to 75,000 points.
This is a great, rich promotion for heavy stay travelers. For those who max out the 25 nights it means an average of 3000 bonus points per night. Based on the value of miles that’s worth $42 per night. Which is yuge. Especially since it’s on top of regular points-earning, and valid at even the cheapest of Hyatt properties.
In fact, it’s good enough that if you’ve done 20 nights and earned 50,000 bonus points it could even be worth mattress-running the final 5 nights for 25,000 more bonus points (since that would be a rebate from the bonus alone of $70 per night). And certainly if you’re at 22 or 23 nights mattress runs would be in order. There aren’t too many promotions where the incentive is that great.
75,000 points are enough for 3 nights in a category 6 hotel like the Park Hyatt Hadahaa, Maldives or the Andaz Maui.
Park Hyatt Maldives
Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
What’s brilliant about this is it’s lucrative enough to make me want to take a pause from other hotel stays I might have booked. There haven’t been many promotions rich enough to actually get me to shift business, as opposed to just being good things worth signing up for because more points are better than fewer points.
For the frequent guest I believe this is most lucrative. Marriott is offering MegaBonus which is nice for someone making two stays. IHG’s Accelerate promotion is the most game-able. Hilton’s double points is simplest, starting with the first night and Starwood’s offer is a bit more lucrative but requires two nights to start the clock.
Oh Hyatt. I wish you gave a damn about the 99% of us who don’t stay 25 nights in a quarter but would love an incentive to switch a couple stays. Oh well, IHG for me!
Honestly I am a bigger fan of the Hilton-style double points offers, but this one could be decent. I just wish their portfolio was bigger, as probably half of the places that I go lack a Hyatt property.
Will it work on cash+points and previously booked reservations?
@Raj: based on my previous experiences with Hyatt I’d say yes.
@Gary sez, predictably: “What’s brilliant about this is it’s lucrative enough to make me want to take a pause from other hotel stays I might have booked. There haven’t been many promotions rich enough to actually get me to shift business, as opposed to just being good things worth signing up for because more points are better than fewer points.”
In spite of the predictable gushing over this third straight offering of the same thing or theme, it is not a promo that most HGP members can take advantage of in a significant way. Only true road warriors might be able to earn significant points during the 3-month promo period. Five stays in 3 months for 5K points is what I suspect most regular Joes will be able to manage or AFFORD, which is peanuts. To even attempt to get to the next level (10 stays/15K points) in 3 months with revenue stays at the usually pricier Hyatt hotels would land most in the poor house.
In short, this is not a promo that anyone with an ounce of grey matter between the ears would shift their business to Hyatt for. By contrast, HHonors’ Q4 2X promo, which requires no major effort other than signing up and doing a few stays, has caused me to forgo a lower “convention rate” at Westin Fort Lauderdale and book a 4-night stay at a higher rate at Hilton Fort Lauderdale nearby… 😉
Oh, wait. Things are even worse. This is a 2- rather than 3-month promo, 09/01-11/30 rather than to 12/31, like other programs are offering! Good luck!
@DCS, That is 90 days which is just about 3 months. Not any different than the previous one.
@Mo – You’re right.
09/01-10/01- 30 days
10/01-11/01- 30 days
11/01-11/30 ~30 days
I was mentally counting to 11/01 as 2 months…Still tough to do.
HH – the program so tremendous and fantastic that only one person ever talks about it.
BTW when OPM is paying for one’s stay, not too hard to turn down a room at a loyalty program one doesn’t frequent as much for a more expensive one at one you do participate in. LOL.
HH has some 55 million members. That one person talks about in the “lion’s den”, so to speak, is proof of nothing, unless you wish to let us in on some juicy secret knowledge…
G’day!
LInk?
Thanks.
The HGP rep has posted a thread on FT – The link will be up soon.
The actual promo is 91 days.
Those who regularly BIB diamond would generally do OK for the 5K from this as they have to average 5 nights or a bit over 2 stays each month in any case.
It’ll work well for me as I already have 10 nights booked before end of November.
Is there a link to register for this promotion or is it just automatic?
A link was put up in the specific thread on FlyerTalk about half a day ago.
Too bad you can use it for cheap Vegas hotels.
Can’t!
