Mistake Rate on a Suite With Club Access at the Intercontinental Madrid

The Intercontinental Madrid has an interesting rate, a club access suite for the price of a base room. (HT: Reader Ralf who points to this Flyertalk thread)

A King Bed Business Suite which comes with club lounge access is ~ €595 when searching the IHG Rewards website with country set to U.S. and language English.

Change the setting to Germany and German, and the rate drops to €185. This is available across a huge variety of dates. Fortunately Google Chrome has built-in translation.

The room is also available on points.

  • 40,000 points per night
  • 35,000 points + € 40 . 00 EUR per night
  • 30,000 points + € 70 . 00 EUR per night

Other lesser room types are more expensive.

  • A double bed Executive Deluxe room is €185 on the date I searched.
  • A (non-suite) Club double room is €243 on the date I searched.
  • A double bed deluxe junior suite with club access is €525 for the same date.

I’m not sure this is a good enough deal to prompt a trip to Madrid. But if you have plans to be in Spain anyway, it’s a fantastic offer.

I wouldn’t make other non-refundable travel plans around this, though, for some time until we see whether or not the hotel will honor the room type booked at a price equivalent to what they seem to be getting for base level rooms.

  1. Great find! Booked for a weekend later this year. No risk involved as I can cancel for free until one night before. I took screenshots of the fare rules just in case…

  2. As I wrote on FT:

The confirmation email state “EINBETT BUSINESS SUITE” but on my account it’s a reservation for a Deluxe room.

I have a feeling they won’t honor the confirmation email. I’m in for one night, hoping for the best.

  3. The low prices are for nonrefundable from what I can gather. I stayed at this hotel on a IHG price break for 5,000 points and they upgraded me since I am Platinum to a very nice room with a terrific view of Madrid with a patio overlooking the city. Not sure I could spring for this after being spoiled by my last experience. This is a nice property though and I would stay there again if I had plans to be in Madrid confirmed.

  4. Ive stayed there and as an RA received upgrade to club suite. It has been about 5 years, so perhaps it has since been renovated, but it was a pretty dull room and below average club
I wouldn’t make a trip to Madrid just because of this mistake.

  5. is the deal dead?
I see the higher rates on english version, can’t find it on german site for april 23 – 25 dates.

  6. Thanks for the tip! I already had this hotel booked with points for a trip this summer. I canceled (a very nervous minute) and rebooked with points. Same as above confirmation email says business suite but my account says deluxe room. I guess if they don’t honor I am not out unless they cancel the reservation. Again, thanks for the heads up!
