New Bath Amenities Coming to Hyatt

As revealed on Milepoint, word is that Hyatt has selected KenetMD which is made by Gilchrist & Soames.

I haven’t ever heard of KenetMD but apparently their narrative is a product produced by a dermatologist, scientific approach to skincare or some such. I look forward to trying it out.

Back in May there was discussion of Hyatt’s plans to dump Portico, and goodness knows it won’t come soon enough. I like ginger but their ‘white ginger’ smell doesn’t cut it for me, and my wife tells me that many other hotel products work better for her.

I rather hoped for L’Occitane, with Hilton rather going upmarket and all with Peter Thomas Roth, but perhaps these new bath amentiies will prove to be worth the search that went into them.

I don’t know the timeframe for rollout, but in my view it can’t come soon enough.

What are your favorite hotel bath products? What did you think of Portico? And is this a solid choice for Hyatt?

Update: An informed source contacts me to tell me that while Hyatt is testing this new amenity, and it appears to be a likely choice, that this may not be definite — negative feedback could still affect the final selection.

  1. As a frequent Hyatt visitor, and upon your asking, I’d like to mention this: I do not really care for the White Ginger line from Portico, but I do love the Quince+Bergamot products (also from Portico)!

If you visit a Hyatt property, you might try asking for the Quince+Bergamot bath amenities by name. If the hotel has them (especially if you are a diamond member) you are likely to get them.

Otherwise, the Elemis bath amenities found at some Intercontinental Hotels are exquisite.

  2. Oh thank goodness. That white Ginger scent is the most disgusting thing. Whenever I check into a hyatt, I call housekeeping to see what else they can offer. Depending on the property I’ve been delivered some mediocre to outstanding ammenities. Thanks for the update!!!

  3. Favorites:

Malin + Goetz at Soho Grand
    Korres at Andaz San Diego
    Remede at Luxury Collection/St Regis
    Na Ho’ola at Hyatt Waikiki

  4. I love Westin White Tea Aloe products. A few B&B’s I’ve stayed at use Gilchrist & Soames and they’re wonderful products too.

  5. L’Occitane at Four Seasons is my favorite. Big bottles so great to take the extras to Hyatts so I don’t have to use White Ginger 😉

The Carlyle in NY has Kiehls which is also quite nice.

  6. I think the Portico White Ginger smells like an off-brand insect repellent. Anything will be an improvement.

  7. I think the Gilchrist + Soames stuff as well as Portico smells cheap. I liked the Remede products that I had at St Regis Deer Valley and to an extent, the ubiquitous Lemon Verbena L’Occitane products at the Four Seasons. But I much prefer the White Tea Bulgari toiletries at Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat and the Miller Harris Citron line at the Fairmont Santa Monica.

  8. Aesop is my favorite by far (PH Sydney, PH Tokyo, PH Seoul) – but fat chance using it brand-wide – its about $5 per little mini bottle.

Remede is excellent. That would be my second choice. One of the best aspects of staying at St. Regis in my book. Molton Brown would be my third choice. Some Hyatts use it (Churchill, for example). Mandarin Oriental nails it with the awesome selection of MB.

  9. Scented bath products aren’t my thing – whether Hermes (Cavalieri) or Origins (Crystal Cruises) or White Ginger.
I like hotel bath products as much as the next person, but not scented stuff. That stuff goes in a corner of the bathroom along with a note “no bath products needed, thank you.”

  10. I’m not sure that I am understanding the comparisons here. Hyatt uses Portico in almost all domestic Hyatt and Hyatt Place properties, but not their high-end Park Hyatt and Andaz properties, right?

Why, then, would an appropriate comparison be to other chains high-end brands (i.e. St. Regis, W, Mandarin, Four Seasons)? Don’t get me wrong, I love the Bliss and Remede stuff on the rare occasion when I stay at upscale SPG properties, but I wouldn’t expect to find the same product in a suburban Sheraton.

My biggest complaint about the Portico stuff is that it doesn’t really lather up all that well. Give me something that lathers a little better, and I’ll be happy. Mostly, though, I think that any product that you get ALL THE TIME is something that you would grow sick of over time. Heck, I’m a food guy and love a good steak, but if I ate at Peter Luger’s every night, I’d get sick of it……eventually. 🙂

  11. @Sonja Each Mandarin Oriental seems to have different products. I’ve had Aromatherapy Associates in London and Tokyo (Jo Malone is also available in London), but I don’t think it’s consistent.

  12. I liked the lemon verbena Portico, but the white ginger stuff was gross. I was at the HR Huntington Beach a couple days ago and they had Portico Eucalyptus, which I really enjoyed.

I still miss having Aveda products at the W and Westin

  13. I love the Portico white ginger scented bath products at the Hyatt. They worked well for me and reminds me of the tropical scent in the air when you get off the plane in Hawaii.
