IHG Rewards Club – the loyalty program for Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and related brands — is offering a 100% bonus on purchased points through December 31. This applies to purchases of 7000 or more points.

At a 100% bonus purchases of 26,000 points or more cost just $0.005 apiece which is the lowest price I see them sell points for. Oddly purchases of 26,000 points is cheaper than 25,000 points because the cost per point drops. I believe the points are worth slightly more than this.

Many readers believe that the Boeing 737 MAX should never fly again. I disagree. I believe that while there were design flaws, those have been addressed, and regulators are inherently conservative and so it’s likely taking longer than it should to allow the plane to operate commercial flights. I will fly the aircraft again, and you will probably will too.

Alaska Airlines Apologizes. And I Like It.

Alaska Airlines had twice the usual number of baggage handlers call in sick since Friday morning, though the airline says this is not part of a coordinated job action. As a result many bags didn’t make it to their destination. That’s frustrating for customers, of course.

What’s notable to me, though, is the Alaska Airlines apology. There’s nothing mealy mouthed about it. There’s no hedging. It’s not offered in the third person.
