Delta Says They Want to Be the Launch Customer For the Boeing 797. Should We Believe Them?
Boeing has talked about a possible new “middle of the market” jet, something between the largest 737 and the new smaller 787 widebodies, since at least 2003. This plane would be a replacement for the Boeing 757.
It’s unofficially dubbed the ‘797’ and is expected to seat 220 – 270 passengers and fly up to 5,200 nautical miles.
Alaska Airlines Eliminates Close-in Redemptions on Cathay Pacific and JAL
Alaska Airlines has a fantastic award chart compared to many other airlines for premium class travel to Asia. And they have great partners, though they don’t always seem to have as much access to Cathay Pacific award space as other airlines do.
Now Cathay Pacific — and JAL — booking is about to get worse because Alaska will no longer allow reservations within 3 days of travel.
Wide Open Business Class Award Space Cathay Pacific New York – Asia

Woman Puts Herself Through X-Ray Machine to Make Her Sure Bags Aren’t Stolen
One of the strangest things about the screening process to me is that at most airports when a passenger alarms or is flagged for random additional testing the whole line stops. It would be far more efficient to divert the passenger and continue moving the line through.
Sometimes going through the checkpoint I’m stuck waiting to get screened while my bags have already gone through. I never want to be separated from my bags where I cannot see my bags.

Cathay Pacific Didn’t Launch a Low Cost Airline Because of Disgraced United CEO Jeff Smisek
United CEO Jeff Smisek was ousted in September 2015 with a $37 million golden parachute after he reportedly agreed to pay off a politician in exchange for favorable action from the Port Authority of New York New Jersey which oversees their Newark airport hub.
It turns out he may have done as much as anyone to preserve the Cathay Pacific brand.
United’s New ‘Dense’ 757: Routes You Want to Avoid
US Airways-turned American President is now United’s President and the airline is on a quest to ‘densify’ aircraft making them less comfortable for passengers.
United Boeing 757-300s currently have 213 seats (189 coach and 24 first class). In December a leaked memo showed that they’re taking Boeing 757-300s up to 234 seats (210 coach and 24 first class). That’s 21 more coach seats.

Man Jumps Fence at LAX, Sets off Landing Gear Fire Extinguisher on Southwest 737
Last night a man scaled a fence at LAX, ran up to a Southwest Airlines plane that was preparing to depart, and set off a landing gear fire extinguisher on the Boeing 737.
The man ran back toward the fence he had come in over. He was arrested “with the help of a police dog” who apparently also bit him.
