This morning I drew the winner in the $200 giveaway contest for hotel discount site SniqueAway. Many giveaways that I’ve done have topped 1000 entries, this one was only in the 200s, presumably since you needed to actually register for SniqueAway. That just means those of you who did enter had a better chance to win, and the $200 goes to, thanks to Random.org… …Kristin. Thanks all for playing!

Exciting Details of the Oneworld Mega DO Launch!
Last night was the launch party for the Oneworld Mega DO, it was a pajama party at the Andaz West Hollywood. American Airlines is introducing pajamas and other upgraded amenities to their international first class to bring themselves a bit closer to par with their international competitors (I’m still betting that United has to match, but nothing yet….) and it was a great way to promote that with frequent flyers. Not to be outdone, Hyatt gave out robes… Details of the preliminary program were shared — the event begins with an optional European portion with a trip from New York to London January 23 – 25. Then the official launch is in Dallas on January 25, a Hyatt reception in the evening and then the day of the 26th an American Airlines program followed by…
Reader Question: Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal in Frankfurt as a Connecting Passenger
After sharing some of my e-mail back and forth with a reader about Citibank debit card mileage earning on Wednesday, something pretty obvious occurred to me. I get reader questions all the time, every day, and I’m sharing answers with individuals that others may find interesting or useful. And at the very least, even if they aren’t interesting or useful at the moment I publish them, The Google means that folks asking the very same question in the future will find the answers quite easily. If I blog them. So I might start sharing reader email questions and answers more regularly, towards that end here’s a question that came in and an answer I shot back from my blackberry while walking my dog today. R.F. asked: Hey, if I fly in First Class Newark-Frankfurt and…

US Airways Raises the Price of Purchased Miles: the End of the 100% Bonus Purchase Gravy Train?
For most of the past two years US Airways has offered a 100% bonus on purchased miles, in some form or another. A year ago US Airways raised the price to purchase a mile from 2.5 cents to 2.75 cents. And about two years ago, US Airways adjusted their award chart, some awards got more expensive like business class from the US to Europe going from 80,000 miles to 100,000 miles. That meant straight up buying miles for a business award to Europe went from about $1000 to about $1400. Now Mommy Points notes that US Airways has raised the purchase price of miles again, to 3.5 cents per mile. That’s a 27% increase, and the price is now 40% higher than it was a little over a year ago, though the price is in…
The Complaints Choir of Singapore
I’m a big fan of Singapore, here are some of my favorite things Singapore. Many Westerners complain that Singapore is too much like home for them, that it somehow isn’t “Asian” enough which says more about their own biases I think than it says about Singapore. It’s small, it’s clean, people in general speak English. Certainly it’s accessible for a first-time visitor. And for many it’s “just a stopover” but to me I actually enjoy spending time there. Of course, I’m not a local and so I don’t experience Singapore the way that locals do. And here are their complaints about life in Singapore, set to song, the Singapore Complaints Choir: We get fined for almost everything Drivers won’t ‘give chance’ when you want to ‘change lane’ The indoors are cold, the outdoors are hot;…
Waldorf=Astoria Rolling Out Feragamo Bath Amenities
Hilton has been stepping up in the bath amenities game, making Peter Thomas Roth the standard. I’m a fan of the stuff, having gotten used to it at the Parker Meridien in New York years ago. And they’ve amped up a bit for their luxury Waldorf=Astoria brand, just got a press release that starting January they’ll be going with Ferragamo Tuscan Soul, which I admit I’ve only gotten in first class on Singapore Airlines but I’m a fan. The amenities are already in New York, Rome, New Orleans, Versailles, Shanghai, and London and will be in all 22 properties by January. Is it crazy to think this actually makes me consider staying at Waldorf properties? Here’s a search of Neiman Marcus online showing the Tuscan Soul products for sale. It’s a little bit beyond what…
Free SGD$20 for Use During Singapore Connections (Lounge Access Even in Coach!)
Through March 15, 2012, Singapore Airlines (and SilkAir) passengers arriving in Singapore from China, Egypt, India, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey and the US, and connecting to another Singapore or SIlkAir flight, are eligible for a SGD$20 voucher. Information counters in terminals 2 and 3 have the vouchers, and require you to show a printout of your e-ticket receipt and the boarding pass from your arriving flight. The vouchers don’t have to be used on the same trip, they expire on March 15. Each is valid for one-time use at all retail, food and service outlets located at the transit and public areas of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 (but are not valid in the arrival baggage claim halls). Interestingly, that means they’re valid for access to the paid Ambassador Transit Lounge…
