More Competition Coming: AirAsia X Says They’re Approved to Fly to the U.S.

Asian low cost carrier AirAsia X, affiliate of various Asia Asia short haul carriers, reports that it has received permission to fly to the US.

Whether or not AirAsia X serves U.S. markets in the near- or medium-term, the long term trend is greater low cost competition for international routes. Norwegian’s Irish subsidiary has been approved to fly to the US finally. Their UK subsidiary is in the queue.

FARE DEAL: Fly Amazing Singapore Airlines to Asia for Under $500 Roundtrip

For travel throughout most of 2017 you can fly Singapore Airlines between Los Angeles and Tokyo for less than $500 roundtrip. In fact, the fare is really available, it’s not hard to find.

What makes this fare really interesting to me is that Singapore Airlines economy is pretty darned civilized as far as economy long haul travel goes. I personally wouldn’t want to contemplate China Eastern or United economy for that long a trip.

HURRY: $166 Roundtrip Between US and Philippines, Great for Visiting Asia

There’s currently a fare between New York and Cebu in the Philippines for just $166 roundtrip.

I visited Cebu in 2010. The Hilton was great about suite upgrades, had super cheap massages, and room service coffee delivered with cookies was less than $2. I also took a really great cooking class.

And of course you can jump off there to visit most anywhere in Southeast Asia, consider using British Airways Avios for cheap redemptions on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, or ultra low cost carrier airlines.

Amazing Award Availability: Use Delta Miles to Take the Whole Family to Asia

Delta is moving its Minneapolis – Tokyo Narita flight over to Tokyo Haneda airport at the end of October and award availability is amazing.

Most days there are 9 or more business class saver awards available, although I’ve put together calendars showing when there are 6 or more business class seats. These cost 80,000 miles per person each way.
