Silvercar is opening at Newark May 9 at Wally Park. I never rent cars in New York, but if I were headed somewhere other than Manhattan I probably would. I love Silvercar and am always thrilled to see them expanding to key markets.

When you rent from Silvercar, their all-inclusive model comes with free GPS, wifi, and satellite radio. You pay only actual tolls (no administrative charges) and can pay a flat $5 and they’ll refuel your car at market rate.
No $9.79 per gallon charges, and no filling up at the gas station near rental car return charging nearly $5 a gallon.
These aren’t cheap rentals, they start at $49 a day in some locations but that’s often cheaper than I can get midweek airport rentals and it’s not that much more than rental agencies charge much of the rest of the time — plus you get a nice car and nice set of features.

I only wish they were in more cities. Oddly enough their core customers apparently aren’t elite business travelers — perhaps they have something of a hipster demographic, but that’s likely a function of early adopters, and that they aren’t yet widespread enough to bulk up on corporate contracts.
Keep in mind in New York sometimes you get rerouted to a different one of the three airports. With silvercar this becomes impossible. Still a great place to rent a car, but just keep in mind that this locks you to Newark no matter what even if weather or other problems cause you to be rerouted to JFK or LaGuardia.

I too tried Silvercar in Denver last year and it was an amazing experience. Good service, all inclusive, a gas refill option that’s not offensive or stupid, and a great car. I travel to EWR at least a couple times a year and the rental car prices there are ridiculous (although the last time I was there in March there was a deal with Dollar where the rental turned out to be about $100 for 4 days!).
If you’re a Visa Infinite cardholder (which I am through City National Bank), you can get 30% off at SilverCar. I was just pricing cars for an upcoming trip in July and with the 30% off it’s cheaper than several other companies. Knowing that it’ll be a good car with (hopefully) good service makes this a no-brainer for me. They’ve got my business.
