Finally Proof That Customers Make Decisions on Brand, Not Just Schedule and Price
It’s become all too common to believe that the only things customers care about are schedule and price. This idea has been at the core of the ‘race to the bottom’ where legacy airlines strive to become more like ultra low cost carriers and then fail to understand why customers are unhappy.
Now that British Airways parent company IAG is telling investors that a quarter of the buying decision is based on brand, can we put to rest the notion that what customers think of their travel experience doesn’t matter for a full service high cost airline?
British Airways Details Changes to First and Business Class, Beginning in July
British Airways doesn’t have a competitive business class product. On their Boeing 777s seating is eight across, middle seats are especially intimate and passengers in the window climb over the feet of their seat opponents.
We now know a little more about what’s to come for business class, first class, and even the direction of how many seats they’re going to offer.
British Airways Wants to Buy Norwegian – So It Can Raise Transatlantic Airfares
Back in April British Airways parent company IAG acquired just under 5% of Norwegian and started talks to acquire the discount carrier. I assumed that acquire meant smother it so that the airline wouldn’t keep depressing transatlantic fares, especially out of cities like London.
Chairman Willie Walsh addressed a Norwegian deal at their investor day.

Does British Airways Promise Transportation – Or Transportation Free From Urine?
A British Airways business class passenger found his seat similarly soaked and BA offered 40,000 Avios as compensation.
Compensation ought to be the full cost of the ticket at a minimum. British Airways may believe that 40,000 points is generous, that all they promise is transportation from point A and point B (never mind that this was business class). However I believe that they promise transportation from point A to point B free of urine and they failed to deliver what the customer paid for.
British Airways Increased Fuel Surcharges – But Alaska Airlines Isn’t Charging The Higher Amount
While British Airways has increased the surcharges on award tickets Alaska Airlines is not (yet?) passing along those higher fees. Alaska Airlines is requiring about $380 less than American for the same British Airways itinerary.

How to Redeem British Airways Awards Without Paying Big Fuel Surcharges (Trick That May Not Last)
British Airways offers reasonably good award availability, and it’s no secret why. You don’t just pay miles for awards on their flights, you pay a huge cash co-pay, a practice .that a former American Airlines pricing executive called unethical.
There are several ways to reduce those surcharges, such as booking one way awards for less than a roundtrip. However there’s another trick or glitch that allows you to reduce fuel surcharges on premium cabin tickets.
British Airways Launching Service to… Charleston, South Carolina?
British Airways announced new London Heathrow service to Charleston, South Carolina. The flight goes on sale tomorrow and will operate twice weekly between April 4 and October 24.
It’s seasonal service. It’s just twice a week. And it will be operated by a Boeing 787-8 with 35 business class, 25 premium economy, and 154 coach seats. Boeing 787 aft fuselage parts are manufactured at Boeing’s North Charleston site.
