United has introduced a new reason to book on its website in addition to the standard 1000 mile booking bonus. Flights booked at united.com and paid for with a United Visa will earn an elite qualifying mile for every dollar spent.

Bonus miles for traveling with pets
Register to earn 1200 bonus United miles when flying with a pet by May 27th. The bonus can be earned twice, and is valid on almost all booking classes (but not on T fares).
Double Miles for Disaster Relief
United is offering 500 miles for gifts of $50 or more to one of their six designated relief charities. If you pay with your United Visa, you’ll earn double miles (update for clarity: double miles on the actual donation amount, not on the 500 mile bonus).
Season’s Greetings
Happy Holidays from United Airlines. Turn on your speakers. I have an inexplicable affection for Rhapsody in Blue.

Another silly proposed security rule
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security wants passengers on planes headed to the U.S. to be on board an hour before flight time. They trot out the usual justification The United States wants to tighten passenger checks to prevent a repeat of the Sept. 11 Even though, of course, this measure wouldn’t have prevented September 11 in the first place. As if we didn’t already have to get to the airport early enough, not only would the push back that time even further but connections would have to be much longer. It would no longer be enough to have an hour between connecting flights if you actually have to be onboard the new plane an hour before takeoff.
Biscoff Cookies
One of the things I love about flying Skywest, a regional carrier in the Western U.S. for both United and Delta, is that they’ve long served Biscoff cookies. The Gourmet Center in San Francisco (which sells these wonderful treats) is now offering one Delta mile per dollar spent at their online store, plus 250 miles for each order (500 miles on orders of $75 or more). This isn’t the most lucrative offer on its own terms, but for folks like me who have long considered ordering the cookies anyway this gives me a pretty good excuse.
Free miles
Since I have so many new visitors, I thought I’d take a moment to summarize some of the quick ways to click for miles that I’ve posted: 1000 Continental miles for completing a survey 2000 Hilton points for updating your profile Up to 2500 Delta miles for referring new Skymiles members 500 USAirways miles for signing up for their free golf newsletter 1000 United miles and 500 American miles Up to 300 American miles for taking a survey 1500 Alaska Air miles for email signup
If I post too much
If I post too much during the day from work, my employer might have to fire me. That might be okay, because Talentology is an online job bank which gives 500 United miles for each interview that you get from their site.
Before taking a trip with
Before taking a trip with either United or American, check out SeatGuru. It has aircraft layouts and recommendations on which seats have a bit of extra room, and which seats to avoid because you’ll always get hit by the flight attendants pushing the beverage cart.
