News and notes from around the interweb:
- United will give employees better inflight meals
- British Airways banned from Hong Kong, December 12 – 25 for bringing in too many Covid cases, including failing to check a passenger’s Covid documents. Of course Cathay Pacific has brought in more positive passengers from London than BA has..
- United Airlines flight attendants raise alarm on crew quarantine protocols cabin crew keep working after being exposed to someone who was Covid-positive, United says they follow CDC protocols but American is more cautious.
- Qantas flew non-stop from Frankfurt to Australia for the first time, a repatriation charter.
For the first time since April 2013, a flying kangaroo has been sighted at Frankfurt Airport. 😉 @Qantas returned to FRA to conduct a repatriation flight – operating the first ever nonstop service between Frankfurt and Australia. That´s what we call a comeback! #frankfurtairport pic.twitter.com/0JgoBesHbh

- American Airlines, taking delivery of more planes they don’t need when they already have more debt than anyone else.
Holidays are about Family – so we’ve delivered our 200th #A320Family member produced in #Mobile, Alabama to @AmericanAir! The #A321neo joins one of the youngest fleets in the region, building on the airline’s focus on fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft. pic.twitter.com/rMzoQP9YOG

- New York LaGuardia now has a Minute Suites ‘Express’. I’ve never understood the terminology, United Express, Holiday Inn Express, it’s not like you check into a Holiday Inn Express and you sleep faster. Regional jets operating for a major airline’s ‘express carrier’ don’t fly at higher speeds than mainline.
Minute Suites Express offer smaller rooms than a regular Minute Suites – no couches (“They feature two comfy chairs, a workstation with a desk, and TV. Wifi, Apple TV, and all other amenities we offer at our other locations are included.”)
You could argue the regional carriers are express because they (at least in Europe) can turnaround in 25 minutes vs almost an hour for mainline aircraft. The most confusing to me though is FedEx Express which when expanded is Federal Express Express!
@EJC:
They take the money you got by putting your PIN Number into your ATM Machine, then fly your parcel from DIA Airport to SFIA Airport. And then deliver it to the Department of Redundancy Department.
@Gary – It would be a lot tougher to ban Cathay from HKG.
