News and notes from around the interweb:
- A short video circulating on social media shows an intense confrontation at Miami airport. Several young women get into it before an adult steps in and shuts it down. Two younger girls advance toward another woman off to the side. Voices rise and the crowd reacts. A woman forcefully intervenes. Her words are clear: “Stop. We’ll file a report. I’m not going to jail for a fight.”
- American Airlines: “We have a loss of the autopilot, loss of auto-thrust, and we have a position disagree between both of our [flight management systems]. We have multiple failures, including navigation and automation as well.” According to American Airlines,
American Airlines flight 2616 with service from Boston (BOS) to Philadelphia (PHL) returned to BOS shortly after take-off due to a maintenance issue.
“The flight landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own power.
“The aircraft has been taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team.”
- My first thought was “captain couldn’t make it” but more likely the leak originated in the lav and dribbled into the cockpit rather than the other way ’round.
- Mini-golf, sensory rooms and biometric screening could transform O’Hare, new Aviation chief says but he’s towing the mayor’s line against slot machines.
- The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ provided $12.5 billion for FAA air traffic control. Transportation Secretary told the American Airlines employee podcast they actually need over $31 billion. (They’re doing little to fix the problems with procurement and management that have contributed to a backwards system – they’re largely focused on funding.)
- Because I am of a certain age, the first thing that came to my mind was “What were Christa McAuliffe’s last words?”
