A woman sitting at a bar at New York JFK’s terminal JetBlue terminal 5 decided to steal a bottle of Belvedere vodka and stick it in her carry on bag when the bartender wasn’t looking. And the bottle heist is on video.
Plenty of passengers are sick of outrageous airport bar prices and many airports offer alcohol to go but combining these ideas as this passenger does is a bad idea:

This is a $25 bottle of vodka – surely not worth the legal hassle over, although someone is selling an empty bottle on eBay for $20 so there’s some resale opportunity here as well perhaps.
Theft of $25 in New York is prosecuted as petit larceny under Penal Law § 155.25 (Class A misdemeanor). While that can carry a sentence of up to 364 days in jail and fine up to $1,000 (or up to twice the loss), as well as restitution of the $25 to the victim, “adjournment in contemplation of dismissal” seems more likely given the sub-$100 amount – so that if the thief avoids new charges for six months, the case could be dismissed and sealed.
Letitia James. Is that you?
Now she doing to get a trespassing warning, and will never be able to set foot in JFK again! She’s gonna lose her TSA pre-check & global entry if she even has that one I doubt it! Just foolish!
Arguing that stealing things because a person is poor is offensive to all the poor people who are NOT thieves. I grew up poor in a single parent home led by a mother who worked long hours and did not steal. It’s an insult to her memory every time I hear someone argue that it’s OK to steal stuff when you’re poor.
No. It’s not OK. You’re just a freakin’ thief trying to make out that you’re not. You’re a thief — live with it.
I am shocked by her behavior. I’m even more shocked that she wasn’t on Spirit or Frontier.
Happy Lootin’ !
This has to be staged and fake. Someone just happened to be recording her when she did it? And she kept it even after knowing she was being recorded ? The whole thing smells bogus.
Thing 1, assuming this is true–and Bob raises a good point–I suspect most people who commit criminal activities don’t see themselves as doing wrong. They find excuses to let themselves sleep at night (and here I’m not talking about somebody who is starving and desperate). At least the scammers who have called me up don’t appreciate it when I ask them how they enjoy stealing and being criminals. They typically deny they are and get really uncomfortable fast. One guy did explain it was to pay back “the rich world” for stealing from his country and another calmly told me he liked it as the business paid well. But those were exceptions. Is the same true for white collar criminals, even those doing legal activities like corporate executives at the oil and tobacco companies who know what their products are doing? Probably.
that is not a $25 bottle of spirits , that bottle is X onces at drink cost at the bar that owned it, same as in the past the DEA catches a pound of weed , they value it at single joint street prices to increase the penalty
According to the person in the video via a thread response, it’s staged. I recommend vetting this and removing the post once confirmed.
@Mazz staging a large bottle of Vodka at the gate? Of course they are staying it’s staged because they realized they are screwed as they published a crime to social media with faces in view. Good job to the ladies perpetuating a stereotype
@Mazz – I don’t think it is though – because the original posting of this on twitter was deleted after it was pointed out that this was evidence.
letting criminals take a walk is causing the rise in crime.. All theft should be punished aggressively.
give this woman both the $1000 fine and the 364 days in jail PLUS a ban from that bar, if it’s a chain, all the bars, and a 1 year ban from the airport.
@ thing 1 . exactly! theft is theft, commandment #8 thou shall not steal”
maximum punishment has been earned. And @ coffee please, that goes triple for those who commit 34 felonies, break 7 of the 10 commandments , and commit the 7 deadly sins weekly.
Doing a crime – stupid.
Doing a crime, filming it, and posting it on line – So stupid you deserve to be made an example of to the rest of society.
Filming her serving 30 days and posting it on the same social media account – priceless.
