Last night was the launch party for the Oneworld Mega DO, it was a pajama party at the Andaz West Hollywood. American Airlines is introducing pajamas and other upgraded amenities to their international first class to bring themselves a bit closer to par with their international competitors (I’m still betting that United has to match, but nothing yet….) and it was a great way to promote that with frequent flyers. Not to be outdone, Hyatt gave out robes…

Details of the preliminary program were shared — the event begins with an optional European portion with a trip from New York to London January 23 – 25. Then the official launch is in Dallas on January 25, a Hyatt reception in the evening and then the day of the 26th an American Airlines program followed by flying on a charted 757 the 26th to Seattle (landing at Boeing Field) for a special dinner. Friday the 27th will be a Boeing program with non-public experiences, then hopping the charter to Los Angeles in the afternoon. The event will wrap with a oneworld program in Los Angeles.

Official hotels will be Grand Hyatt DFW, Hyatt Regency Bellevue (I had a giant suite there six weeks ago, there’s a great soup dumpling place next door), and the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The charter flights will be ~ 2611 flown miles but will earn some significant redeemable and elite qualifying miles: Approximate pricing, being firmed up in coming days, and mileage earning will be as follows:

Economy Class = apx. $799*
Earn 7,500 EQMs & RDMs

Exit Row = apx. $899*
Earn 7,500 EQMs & RDMs

Tommy Class = apx. $1,199*
Earn 10,000 EQMs & RDMs

First Class = apx. $1,699*
Earn 15,000 EQMs & RDMs

(Price is for charter, activities, group meals, and does not include hotels or positioning flights to the start of the event or back home from Los Angeles. And it doesn’t include the optional European program.)

Hyatt will award bonuses to all oneworld Mega DO attendees based on the number of nights they stay with Hyatt leading up to the event. Nineteen nights is 25,000 bonus points, up through 200,000 points if you basically live at a Hyatt through mid-January.

Each American Airlines roundtrip for Mega DO attendees will earn bonus miles as well beginning with 1000 miles for your first roundtrip and totaling 55,000 miles with 10 roundtrips by January 13.

These bonuses are just for registrants before the event actually takes places, I believe this is the first time a Mega DO has had bonuses available prior to the event itself, and according to AAdvantage President Maya Leibman details to come later on what elite status upgrades may come for attendees..
