30,000 Mile Signup Bonus for Alaska Airlines Visa

There’s a new offer for an Alaska Airlines Visa with a 30,000 mile signup bonus.

This is interesting for several reasons.

  • Last June there was a 40,000 mile bonus, that’s been long gone, and the best offer I’ve been otherwise aware of has been 25,000 miles. So this is a bit better.
  • Bank of America cards are generally churnable, I’ve had more than one Alaska card for instance.
  • The bonus is awarded with first purchase, there’s no minimum spend requirement, so easy to get the bonus.
  • The best card offers are usually from Chase, American Express, and Citibank. Good offers from other issuers — like Bank of America, Barclays, etc. — are really useful when planning a credit card churn.
  • The card also comes with a $99 (+tax) companion ticket, the second passenger is treated just the same as the paying passenger, no capacity controls and can even be used for paid first class, something I did a couple of years ago to Hawaii.

There’s no referral credit to me, just as with the Virgin Atlantic (and Amex Platinum) card I posted about yesterday. Just an interesting offer.

  1. Nice they come up with a little boost in the offer. Mind the fine print though – if you are a churner and go through appeals route you may get a lower version of the card. Fine print is Bonus miles offer is 30,000 miles for approved Visa Signature® accounts, 10,000 miles for approved Platinum Plus® accounts or 8,000 miles for approved Preferred accounts. So you may get less than you bargained for

  2. Do you know the source of this offer? The format looks a little different than the 25K ongoing offer on the alaskaair.com site. I hope this isn’t a “genetically engineered” offer.

    $75 for Visa Signature accounts,
    $50 for Platinum Plus accounts, or
    $35 for Preferred account

  12. It’s important to note that the $99 companion certificate comes on your first anniversary, and not when you first get the card (just got my first one of these cards earlier this week, albeit on the 25K offer 🙁 )

    The last time I got this card (3 or 4 yrs. ago) I received the lounge passes AND the $99 comp. cert. about 3 weeks after I got the card.

  15. My mistake. I guess I was confused as the welcome packet states “…each year on your cardholder anniversary, you’ll recieve a code redeemable online for a $99 companion ticket…” No mention of the impending ones. Looking forward to receipt of them.

    I’m also wanting to know if this offer is retroactive for those that got the lesser bonus in March 2012.

  18. @Vince sure I do and I almost always answer emails. I have never asked Bank of America to match a better offer, so do not know if you can convince them to do it or not, would be awesome for you to try and report back!

  19. the offer says “for UP TO 30,000 miles”…..what does this mean exactly? 30K up front after first purchase or is it 25,000 miles and then 5,000 for adding addt’l card holder?
