74 HawaiianMiles Per Dollar at Amazon Local — If They Honor It

Lucky writes that the Hawaiian Airlines online shopping portal is offering 74 HawaiianMiles per dollar for purchases at Amazon Local.

The Hawaiian Airlines online mall seems to be offering 74 HawaiianMiles per dollar spent at Amazon Local. Once you get to the online mall just enter “Amazon” in the top right search bar, and the offer should come up.

And indeed, it does come up:

I imagine this is either a mistake, or they’ll decide later that this is a mistake. The Hawaiian Airlines shopping portal has a of not honoring super lucrative deals even when the terms and conditions of the offer explicitly say ‘no restrictions’.

And in this case there’s a bit of murkiness, because when you click through to the Amazon Local offer it says “Earn 74 miles / member signup” rather then per dollar.

On the other hand the detailed restrictions seem to make it clear that the offer isn’t for a signup but for a purchase.

  • Retailers retain the right to award points based on valid transactions. It is at the discretion of the retailer to deem whether a transaction is valid. Other restrictions may apply.
  • Restrictions on use of gift cards, gift certificates, coupons or other promotional discounts may apply.
  • See our Terms of Service for additional terms and restrictions regarding your use of this website.
  • Limit one per member.
  • Valid on first purchase by new members only.

There wouldn’t be gift cards involved, or a “first purchase” if it was based on “member signup” and this doesn’t say “74 miles for new member signup, purchase required.”

It does say limit one per member (one what? purchase? at 74 miles or 74 miles per dollar?). So presumably they’ll at least enforce that.

And in past mileage shopping portal deals that haven’t been honored, there have at times been mileage ‘consolation prizes’ (such as 2500 miles from Cartera Commerce for the American Airlines shopping mall error with Verizon).

And at the very least it would seem that any purchase made based on the representation of earning 74 miles per dollar would have to be refunded if they weren’t going to honor the deal.

Although it will take a little while to sort out, for sure. It may be worth playing along if only for the entertainment value.

  1. in for $339 for a 2 night spring getaway to Hood River. 30 days to cancel with Amazon, potential to earn 25,084 miles or at least some sort of compensation if not honored…hell why not?

  2. Sure, why not?

Trying to get something for nothing — it’s how this great nation was built!

  3. I found a deal for $2000, which would 148000 miles. How much are 148000 miles worth? Can they be used on any major US airlines?

  4. The offer now states “74 miles/member sign up”.

Good luck to everyone that may have seen something different at the time.

  5. It’s a mistake and won’t be honored in all likelihood. The post talked about “entertainment value”. If you find this kind of runaround (make a purchase, get denied, make multiple attempts to follow up, get denied, maybe get some compensation in the end but probably not, sue if you’re Randy Peterson) fun, go for it. Otherwise, pass.

  6. I really love your blog. I will buy some thing at Amazon Local. Thank you for your post. Can I transfer Hawaiian miles from my account to my brother account or my friend account? Is there any fees for transfer?

  7. Some great comments here. This is an interesting glitch, but I’d advise against rollig the dice with $2K.

  8. In for $3,000 in yoga lessons. I’ll just cancel for a refund if they don’t honor. Or sue. Or just get really darn flexible.

  9. Did Hawaiian Airlines end the partner ship with amazon? I can’t find them on the airlines shopping portal.

  10. So does anyone have an update on this 74 miles/$ fiasco? I don’t see anything pending or posted in my Hawaiian account. Was there any official communication around this by anyone and since it’s past the 30 days, I assume we cannot even cancel the transaction anymore :/ Updates anyone? Gary, do you know?
