American Airlines flight AA290 from New York JFK to Dublin was enroute to an on-time departure last night when a Delta 737 headed to Seattle came up and went bam.
The incident happened at about 7:10 p.m., according to the Port Authority.
American Airlines flight 290, a Boeing 757 which was waiting for clearance to depart for Dublin, Ireland, was stationary at the time.
Apparently the “upturned edge of its left wing seems to have gouged the horizontal stabilizer on the right side of the tail of the American airliner” as the 737 lined up behind the American 757.

Maybe the most surprising thing about this incident is that both American’s passengers headed to Ireland and Delta’s passengers heading to Washington State actually made it. No one was injured, and both airlines were able to provide aircraft and crew to take off about 5 hours later (after midnight, and in American’s case around 1 a.m.).

American’s 16 year old Boeing 757-200, registration N175AN, will be taking an involuntary leave of absence from the active fleet.
The world’s largest airline’s domestic rivals do seem to be gunning for them lately.
Now AA can remove the aircraft temporarily from service while they cram in 30 more seats.
nothing to see here folks . . . you mean you didn’t hear about the merger between Delta and American?
Some things never change at DELTA…….Don’t Ever Leave The Airport. And Wait til the Delta Fanboys put a SPIN on This……I am sure one of their Biggest Cheerleaders will Insist ” Well They were in Our Way…..we Own NY”. Not!
