Will Intercontinental Hotels Buy Fairmont, and What Happens to Lifetime Fairmont Status?

Last week market excitement ratcheted up over an IHG-Starwood combination, although that culminated in word from IHG that talks ended without a deal. (Starwood is still a potential acquisition target for Wyndham and Accor.)

Now it appears that IHG, the parent of Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and related brands is looking at acquiring Fairmont.

“In Delta’s Frequent-Flier Magic Trick, Not Just Rabbits Disappear”

The New York Times today lays out the best ‘in one place explanation’ of what Delta SkyMiles has done to their program this year — and frames it with comments from Delta, United, American and American Express. People will be able to do with that information (or not do with it) as they will, but at least they’ll be informed well beyond what I can do with this blog.
