News and notes from around the interweb:
- Alaska Airlines is dropping Los Angeles – Havana service. The economics of Cuba flying were never going to work for most of these flights even before the US government placed new restrictions on Americans traveling there.
- Aer Lingus doesn’t currently have plans to join oneworld despite being owned by British Airways and Iberia parent IAG. IAG CEO Willie Walsh has previously said that alliances have become irrelevant.
- Minute Suites will open a second Atlanta location on the T concourse during the first quarter of 2018. Here’s my review of the Philadelphia Minute Suites accessed via Priority Pass card for free.
- The Plaza Hotel’s secret investor
- TSA is refusing to comply with a congressional subpeona for documents revealing their ineffectiveness claiming attorney-client privilege.
- I’m not sure why everyone is so surprised to see the Southwest Airlines CEO flying… Southwest Airlines. Flying coach makes him seem like a regular guy, but his airline only offers coach. Would you expect him to depart Dallas on American?
- Why you shouldn’t fly Spirit Airlines (HT: Paul H.)
That stand up routine was awful. But then again, most of amateur stand up “comedy” is. As a United lifetime MM Gold I choose Spirit for the majority of my domestic leisure travel because the amount that legacy carriers are charging out of IAH is completely ridiculous. And now they’re charging $40-80 RT on top of that to use my elite benefits with their outrageous Basic Economy fares? I hope Spirit runs the legacies out of business because they’re the only thing keeping them accountable.
What is it with passengers refusing to move from their seats whenever there is a weight distribution issue? I was on two different flights (Southwest and United) re ently and both times the pax refused to budge. Finally, the Southwest attendant, rightly irritated, went up to the front of the plane, turned and faced the pax, and announced that he was counting down 10 seconds, or the plane wpould be completely offloaded and we would all be further delayed..
@ Gary — Great, I can use the Minute Suites ATL in place of the SkyClub when I’m not flying Delta.
I don’t appreciate the “Spirit jokes in Nov 2017”
A year ago u could get away with that. Not anymore
The personal item is larger on Spirit than United !
Also now I can download my boarding pass on the Spirit mobile app or via email and no head strait to the gate with my personal item
I can’t do that with United’s. I have to go to the kiosk to have munchies personal item checked and molested before I can get a printed boarding pass ( no mobile option) for basic economy
I love flying Spirit so much.
I love them so much, I actually work for them. It was a funny clip though.
