Why Do Airlines Tell Passengers To Show Up As Much As 3 Hours In Advance For A Flight?

American Airlines recommends arriving at the airport two hours before departure for domestic flights, and three hours for international flights. United Airlines recommends the same thing.

This week the Austin airport publicized recommendations to show up two and a half hours early for domestic flights and three for international. And Austin’s airport, while busy, has check-in desks right next to security, and the gates just past the checkpoints. There are no airport trains, and very few long walks. So what gives?

“Global Airlines” Claims To Have Purchased An Airbus A380, Will Fly U.S. – London

I’ve never heard of Global Airlines but they have a website. The site doesn’t tell you very much. Apparently the founder runs homesharing site HolidaySwap.com, which I’d never heard of.

However they report acquiring an Airbus A380 from Doric Aviation, with plans to take delivery of 3 more of the used aircraft in the coming months in order to launch service from London to New York and Los Angeles in the spring of next year.

First Class Passengers Pool Their Money, Pay Up When American Airlines Overbooks Flight

Wednesday’s American Airlines flight 2484 from Las Vegas to Philadelphia had about two dozen more passengers than they could fly. The airline started offering vouchers to people that would give up their seat, but they weren’t getting enough volunteers. So first class passengers reportedly took matters into their own hands, started a collection, and topped off American’s offer so that passengers would get off of the flight and they could leave.
