News and notes from around the interweb:
- American Airlines used to disclose great information about its loyalty program in annual SEC 10-K filings — such as number of AAdvantage members, number of miles outstanding, percentage of miles sold to third parties — but the 2016 10-K has been neutered of most of the good stuff. Still the historical data is quite interesting.

- The UK’s aviation regulator is commencing a legal action against American Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Etihad, Emirates, and Turkish arguing that EU delay compensation applies whenever a passenger takes off from a European airport and a controllable delay causes them to land at their final destination more than 3 hours late.
Apparently if a London – Dallas flight on American, for instance, is only 90 minutes late into Dallas but causes a passenger to miss their US domestic connection (and thus be more than 3 hours late) American hasn’t been providing compensation but the UK authority believes that they should.
- Update to American Airlines boarding group order, premium economy passengers now get group 4 (which uses the priority lane). Previously they were listed as group 5.
- What a great question for an airline to ask: “We would like to make sure regarding your special request berries on the flight. Could you inform us the exact berries that you would like to have, is it fresh berries (fruit) or any kind of dessert contains berries (cake, etc) ?” Yes this is real, a follow up after soliciting a first class passenger’s special request. Guess the airline.

- Avianca’s LifeMiles increased award cancel and redeposit fees from $50 to $200 for bookings between more than one region.
Just yesterday, 22February, I flew in from Frankfurt (FRA) -Washington Dulles on United. As the last (and only) connecting flight to Chicago ORD scheduled out at 10:32pm was running 90 minutes late, United wisely kept their United Club near gate C19 open after its 10pm closing until this delayed flight boarded. Fair enough in my book!
As a segue, United’s new Polaris Business Class from Europe was fantastic !
