You can only book long haul Singapore Airlines awards using Singapore’s own Krisflyer miles. Fortunately all the major bank currencies transfer to Singapore Airlines Krisflyer. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or an American Express® Gold Card you have access to Singapore miles.

Singapore Airlines introduced brand new Airbus A380 Suites two years ago and have slowly rolled out the new cabin across their fleet of super jumbo aircraft.

These awards are very hard to come by, usually involving waitlisting and hoping. These aren’t awards you can usually just book except on a limited number of routes.

However right now saver awards are available on the longest route where the airline operates the Airbus A380: London – Singapore. This news was first reported by Mainly Miles who flags 80 saver award seats between the two cities over a two month period.

For July and August Singapore Airlines flights 350 and 306 have been swapped from a Boeing 777-300ER to an Airbus A380 with the new product. And award availability still seems to reflect what it was with the old aicraft type.

Award availability is better London to Singapore than Singapore to London, though it exists in both directions. And while you’ll do better searching for just a single confirmable seat, there are around half a dozen dates in each of July and Auguust where 2 seats are available.

I certainly don’t expect this situation to last. Transfers to Singapore usually take 12-48 hours, and I am not certain the space will still be available for booking in that time. I would call and ask to put the award I wanted on hold before transferring points – I’ve had mixed success with this request in the past but it’s usually been granted.
