Hyatt is in talks to acquire Standard Hotels. Talks are in “advanced stages” though have not been finalized.
The first Standard Hotel property – The Standard Hollywood – was opened on Sunset in 1999 and closed during the pandemic. The original investors included Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, and Benicio del Toro.
Current hotels include New York in the Meatpacking District and the East Village; Miami Beach; London; Maldives; Ibiza; and Hua Hin.
In recent years the chain has acquired Two Roads Hospitality (including Alila, Thompson, Destination Hotels), Apple Leisure Group; the me and all hotels brand from Lindner Hotels; and the Mr & Mrs Smith booking platform.
Generally speaking these acquisitions are positives for Hyatt, growing their footprint which makes their loyalty program more attractive. The only clear exception is Mr & Mrs Smith, because it meant the loss of their SLH Hotels partnership which was better for customers. And Hyatt has lost its MGM partnership to Marriott.

Properties to be put into Caregory 7-8 — or whatever new categories Hyatt comes up with — before Hyatt fleeces all the current point hoarders with “flexible”/“dynamic” award pricing in points?
Is there any indication that Hyatt intends to eliminate its award chart?
Hyatt acquired Arriva Inc. (aka Unlimited Vacation Club). Any chance they will allow members to just convert their memberships over to the World of Hyatt in the future? Was never thrilled being a UVC member.
If we can use our category 1-4 certificates to stay there, that sounds great.
I spent a lot of time at the Standard bars and restaurants in NYC when I was younger – good times. Though I wonder if these properties will really want a bunch of Globalists whining and moaning about breakfast and upgrades…
Hyatt should acquire Omni and Loews
If hotels wanna re-open again you gotta make sure that you have the right investors and crews for running these types of places as well.Not to mention the offering of fair deals as well ! If all that is done,then you are gonna welcome lots of enthusiastic customers
Maybe Hyatt are geniuses. But they seem wholly focused on resorts, limited-service brands like Hyatt Place, niche hotels and soft brands that in reality just use Hyatt as a booking platform. They seem to have abandoned. I’d put Standard in the niche category. Seven boutique hotels already addresses the fact that Hyatt is missing markets in Canada and the USA.
Hyatt acquires these other brands but don’t offer Globalists complimentary breakfast which is a reason I will never stay at them.
Hyatt is starting to look more like Accor than U.S. based competitors Bonvoy or Hilton. Acquiring small footprint “lifestyle” brands that appeal to the younger, Instagram thirsty mid-market but not much appeal or value for global travelers seeking consistency and sophistication.
