Two Tricks To Leverage Transferable Bank Points for Cheap American Flights [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Not a bad idea for JetBlue tbh

  • There are some things to quibble with here, it’s basic, but still a good introduction for many

  • Qatar Airways charges just 6,000 points for short-distance American Airlines flights in coach. But regional carrier flights don’t always show up online, or even for agents over the phone.

Dan’s Deals writes about booking a mainline flight and then changing to the regional one he wanted. They sent him a link to pay the $25 change fee – he didn’t pay, but the ticket was reissued anyway. And changing the frequent flyer number in the reservation to his AAdvantage account with elite status, he was upgraded.

  • When Delta melted down, it was nearly impossible to get flights rebooked due to the IT failure. They finally agreed to reimburse travel purchased on other airlines, though too late for many to do so. But someone who couldn’t get their ticket changed, and just gave up and bought a new ticket on Delta? Not eligible apparently – because they are reimbursing tickets on other airlines only?

Delta refused to reimburse because I rebooked my flight with ….. Delta

  • The Spirit Airlines acquisition no longer made sense for JetBlue once the Justice Department quashed their American Airlines partnership (since they no longer needed pilots and planes to use all those American slots in New York), and JetBlue was overpaying, but Colorado’s Governor knows that it wasn’t an anti-trust violation… (HT: @crucker)

  1. Walk 3 minutes past LAX-it to Sepulveda Blvd. Get picked up there or at the Hyatt across Sepulveda. You will save a lot of time and money.

  2. Yes, always walk out of LAX- the shuttle bus (or book a Black if you have a lot of baggage). The shuttle bus is a hot mess- the one time I took it, it took over 40 minutes to get one that was empty enough to board.

On the Din Tai Fung article, it’s strange that they don’t list the location that has the most Din Tai Fung’s in the world. Singapore has 24 restaurants, with a XLB index of 9

  3. The LAX-it lot is a pain in the butt. I can understand why people hate it after catching an Uber from it one time (I walked from the Tom Bradley Terminal to it). A better option that gets me on a bus faster is to take a bus to a fly away terminal. I can Uber or taxi from there but the whole journey is slower. I can see why LAX is a pain for those who aren’t familiar with it.
