News and notes from around the interweb:
- Incredible.
Man, AI-generated videos are taking over YouTube. This Short of “Baby Mistakenly Flies Plane” was the 3rd most-watched on the platform last week with ~130m views. pic.twitter.com/l8XSMZN1tr

- Bizarre Bob Jordan interview (NYT) the Southwest CEO claims customers want bag fees, Elliott had nothing to do with the airline’s changes, and employees love what they’re doing (not the employees I talk to, none are happy). Jordan himself wrote to customers last fall promising no bag fees. His Elliott-appointed board overruled him. Much of his top leadership is gone or heading out the door. But he stays, powerless, as the face of layoffs and of a ruddderless ship.

- Resorts World Master Cook Wrongly Fired for Abusing Bacon
A former master cook at Resorts World Las Vegas who was fired for allegedly mishandling bacon has won a wrongful termination case against the casino resort. That’s after a federal labor judge ruled Brian Satake was in fact fired in retaliation for expressing concerns about food safety.
Satake, who worked at the Strip property’s Famous Foods Street Eats venue, was terminated in April 2023, shortly after complaining to management about potential health code violations in the kitchen.
Satake’s dismissal was ostensibly over the claim that he stored unpackaged, ready-to-eat Chinese bacon in a cardboard box rather than a metal pan, itself a health code violation.
- SEIU is protesting United for insourcing. They’re complaining the airline is doing less outsourcing of cleaners and lift truck drivers at Newark. Their members are still eligible to do the same jobs, but for United rather than low-end provider Prospect. That ultimately has to be good for their ‘prospects’. But they’ll have to apply for the jobs and could lose seniority.
- The new airport has broadly been a disappointment in terms of passenger volumes, so this seems about right.
Yes!! Bring back actual United employees as cleaners. Maybe we’ll get to fly on a properly cleaned aircraft again.
Cha-ching! Keep cashin’ in on that AI-slop, Gary! It’s a money-maker… for sure…
@1990
listen, hes gotta make money somehow…
I’m sure he would stop it if you would paetron him 10,000 bucks each month…
Resorts World is a criminal enterprise and despite a beautiful hotel
they have numerous lawsuits filed against them including breaking Nevadas gaming laws
I will not stay there under any circumstances with a hostile environment to their associates and their guests. They have the lowest rated reviews for an upscale hotel in the history of Nevada and to a large extent most of the world for that matter
They are losing money right & left and I will celebrate down the road when they go bankrupt or sell to new owners.A bunch of crooks.Hilton guests deserve better and so does the city of Las Vegas
We have been loyal Southwest flyers for decades to the extent that shuttle drivers stopped asking which airline we were flying as they knew it was always Southwest if they served our destination
We.loved the friendy banter, free checked bags and engaging flight attendants. But now all that has changed since Elliot took over and sadly we are not flying Southwest anymore. We haven’t stopped being loyal to Southwest…sadly, Southwest has stopped being loyal to us.
