  1. Welp, still better than accidentally (or deliberately) shutting off fuel to both engines shortly after takeoff… yikes. A ‘win’ for Boeing/GE, if that story sticks.

  2. Use disposable plastic gloves in place of liquid hand sanitizer. Since they are solid they do not run afoul of the liquid rules in the cabin. Since Covid-19 I have used N95 masks while flying (the whole trip except when eating and drinking) and have not caught colds and other respiratory diseases like I used to. I know the story is anecdotal but I don’t care because I feel that they work for me. They are great to have when someone near you is hacking up a lung.

  3. @jns — I’m impressed by your discipline. Keep doing whatever you feel works best for you. Haven’t seen too many masks this year. It’s been wild to watch the phases of panic, resistance, and adoption. It’d be nice to think we’ve learned our lesson from this pandemic, but I highly doubt it. And, what this tells me is that if aliens ever do come, we’ll lose by infighting and betrayal before they ever have to use advanced technology on us…

  4. @You Will Comply — I’d like to live long enough to be ready for 40+ boosters. You know, like how we’re supposed to get the flu vaccine each year? If @jns wants to and their doctor recommends it, who are we to judge; may even be prudent. Anti-intellectualism is a pox on all our houses…

  5. I have been getting the flu vaccine for around 35 years. I get it every year. Before it was sometimes at work and other times at my HMO. Now it is mostly at my HMO but I have also paid out of pocket to get the vaccine at a clinic if I am going to be out of the country for an extended time when it comes out and my HMO doesn’t have it yet. During that time I haven’t got the flu. I am not scared of getting jabs. I will look away when the stick the needle in or look at the needle going in. It is all the same for me. It is much the same way with Covid-19 vaccines. I go get the latest jab when it is available. The mask is to try to keep the cumulative load of infective particles in the air I breathe down to a level that my body can handle without getting sick. I had to wear a mask at my job for two years to prevent getting silicosis so I became used to wearing one. I have worked with substances in enclosed areas that could kill without a mask. I have worked with substances labeled cancer causing. I have worked with agricultural chemicals. I have worked with electric power. The building maintenance people told me that a worker had been killed the week before by electrocution at one power room. I put on my personal protective equipment and placed my equipment on the same electrical buses that killed him.
