A Delta Air Lines passenger shouts obscenities at flight attendants several times (‘F- you’) while at least once announcing “I’m from Minnesota.” The rest of the cabin remains silent and in shock. Online speculation suggests alcohol or benzodiazepine (xanax, valium).
I’m embedding the video, rather than the Reddit thread where this was posted, because on Reddit it’s titled with the obscentiies. You can go there if you wish, and you’re warned that the video is not safe for work or for work from home, even.
Two takeaways:
- the crew here is excellent in showing restraint, professionalism and de-escalation.
- so much for ‘Minnesota nice.’
Minnesota eh? The state that gave us Ilhan Omar, Jacob Frey, Tim Walz and others. Brain freeze up there I guess.
Well one person isn’t an example of a whole population, but I live in Minnesota. I’m ex-New Yorker, a non-Christian, been here over 40 years. My take is that it’s a decent enough place, the government is clean, people reasonably pleasant. But in the smaller cities and towns if you’re not a local who fits in then you’re always an outsider who may be tolerated, or not. In the metropolitan area it’s okay but people are still busy city folk, reasonably tolerant (we have minorities from many countries) and a little easier than being in Chicago or especially NY. But the “nice” term is far overblown. I will say St. Paul is much more relaxed than neighboring Minneapolis, but then our police force has a much better reputation for being friendlier.
There is no “Minnesota nice.” It is myth promulgated by the residents of that icebox! How can you be nice when you’re frozen for 8 months out if 12? And MTM was not from MN!
Okay, Michael but to be fair it is not an icebox, that’s a terrible media myth. Yes it gets pretty cold in the winter, especially up north. And there are typically pretty good snowfalls in the Twin Cities from December to March. But at least half the year it is decently warm and in mid-summer can get really hot (no ocean to moderate the weather swings). May and September are pleasant in-between months to visit too. I agree about MTM, though there’s a nice statue of her throwing a hat in the air.
I’m always surprised at how little some of our fellow passengers think about their privilege to fly commercial. Like, in real life, I’ll ‘take one for the team’ if someone tries to provoke me on-board, because I’m not interested in joining the ‘no fly list.’ But, hey, you do you, eh.
And, remember, the individual’s bad behavior is the problem, not any particular identifier, group, origin, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, etc. Oh, I see some are already ignoring that. Cool. Cool, cool, cool, cool…
@Coffee Please, would you like to share where you’re from so we can ‘attack’ your place and people, too? Nah, nevermind, that’d be unfair and unkind.
So, yeah… folks sure do love to ‘dunk’ on each other, regardless. Lest there be a lady or gentleman from the great state of Florida that does anything uncouth… again, doesn’t mean the rest of that state is bad, but some will wrongly say so. It’s a mild prejudice. Not a fan of that ‘practice.’ Call it out when you see it.
As for Minnesota, I’ve only had nice experiences, but I’m sure you’ll find someone who hasn’t, as with anywhere else. Agreed with @drrichard, far better to visit in summer or fall, than winter.
@1990
You would have a field day from where I am from. The mayor of my city is a complete moron. The one before did some jail time.
Lived in the Cities for a decade. “Minnesota Nice” is window dressing for being passive aggressive. Piss a Minnesota off and watch them grind their teeth as they smile and twitch their head as they seeth inside.
Slightly OT: now that there’s a snap of autumn in the air I’m hungry for tater tot hot dish tonight
@Coffee Please — Oh, that sounds kinda sad. Corruption of any kind, anywhere is not great. You wouldn’t happen to live in Dalton, Illinois? ($100,000 in First Class tickets around the country sure didn’t seem like ‘official’ business.) Then again, that’s small change compared to the grifting at the top these days (but, I get it, if he’s your guy, ya gotta ignore all that…) I’d just like accountability, regardless of party or office or background.
She’s looking Minnesota, feeling California…
LOL the “Minnesota nice” fallacy. Lived there for 15 years and have some great friends, love our time in the twin cities very much and would go back in a heartbeat, but “Minnesota nice” is nice to your face if you weren’t born and raised there. Ya sure! You Betcha. . .LOL
My brother used to live in Minneapolis. He said “It’s either too damn cold or too damn hot.” I was up there once in the summer and the temp was 100deg. I was there for a week once around New Year’s. The high for the entire week was -3 deg F.
There should be a land swap, Minnesota to Canada and Alberta to the US, unless Texas breaks away, then to Texas.
Haul her fat a** off the jet. Charge her with drunk and disorderly. BAN her from the airline…forever. The airline is not playing any race card or anything like that. A reciprocal “no fly list” should be shared with all US flag carriers. Now let’s see how she fares!
Those new Minnesota Viking cheerleaders are hot.
@Coffee Please Could have not said it better.
I agree with the idea of a reciprocal all-airline ban for these morons. It’s bad enough that they abuse and intimidate airline employees and destroy property, but they also aggravate and annoy those people in the immediate area who are acting appropriately. This type of behavior is detrimental to everyone….I do not want her or anyone like her on my flight!
@Coffee. I’ll play. Is it Detroit?
@thing 1
I’ll give you a hint. The current mayor just got indicted. I don’t live there anymore but my hometown has a history of terrible mayors. A true travesty as it is a wonderful city. Great town to visit and will be back in a couple of weeks.
I moved from Chicago to Minneapolis for my job years ago (after living in NYC, Montana and Seattle). This Minnesota Nice” was bull crap. To your face but not in reality. Maybe nice to fellow Minnesotans that grew up there and had lake homes together and their children grew up in the suburbs on their boats. But an outsider. It was a very lonely time living there.
@Coffee. New Orleans?
Although I don’t believe Nagin was technically *THE* previous mayor (no idea who was between him and Cantrell).
