American Airlines Passenger Tried To Kill Her Dad With Rat Poison, Attacks Flight Attendant, Duct-Taped To Seat

On Tueday’s American Airlines flight 2470 from Charlotte to Las Vegas, a female passenger left her seat, walked the aisle, and filmed the cabin. When she was told to stop, she threatened flight attendants (“I will kill you b***h!”).

Crew restrained her with flex-cuffs and her seat belt. To keep her from sliding out, a flight attendant duct-taped her torso. She kicked a flight attendant twice in the calf and behind the knees, causing the crewmember to fall. Then her legs were taped as well.

Here she is screaming, complaining about the cuffs hurting, and talking about using rat poison to try to kill her father.

So if anybody wants to kill somebody, put rat poison in it, but make sure it’s not expired and make sure you put a lot of it, because it didn’t work for my daddy. He just fell asleep.

Crew re-seated nearby passengers, placed “volunteer passengers” next to her, and stood watch during descent.

AA2470 CLT→LAS, Sept 16: Passenger filmed the cabin, threatened to kill crew when told to stop, was flex-cuffed and duct-taped, then kicked a flight attendant; FBI arrested her on landing and filed interference and assault charges.

The plane was met by Las Vegas police, and the woman was arrested by the FBI. She was charged with interference with flight crew and assault by striking, beating or wounding.

About 16 seconds into this video of the woman’s arrest, she threatens to spit on the cops and they place a spit hood over her head – a mesh fabric restraint police use when someone is spitting, biting, or threatening to. That allows air to pass through, but prevents saliva or other fluids from reaching them. Then the woman asks them to put her music on.

I haven’t seen an inflight incident quite like this one since bad old days of the pandemic where pre-gaming drunk passengers argued over masks and spiraled out of control into diversions, mostly on American and Spirit.

  1. Her mistake was doing this mid-flight. If she waited until they landed no one would have heard about it because – what’s happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!

Seriously though, big hat tip to the FA’s on this flight. 99.99% of the time flights are fairly boring and uneventful. It’s easy to forget that FA’s are the superheroes of the sky. And it’s certainly no picnic for everyone else on the plane.

I hope this passenger gets the help she needs.

  2. I once commented that air passengers should have to pass flier-etiquette training and Pre-Check screening before being allowed on a plane. Articles like this reinforce my belief.

  3. @David R. Miller — Oh, I get it, you think ‘dreads’ means ‘liberal’… (not necessarily true, but I can see how your attempts at prejudice and stereotyping would lead some to conclude that; still, not cool).

  4. David Miller is absolutely correct. Definitely a Democrat. I would love to say more on this but will zip it for now.

  5. David Miller is absolutely correct on this one. Definitely a Democrat. There’s a lot more I could say but for now I will just zip it.

  6. man the comment sections on these extremely well written articles are so disappointing. there is nothing inherently political about this, just a crazy lady on a plane.

  7. @Coffee Please — Woah, this is a safe space… please do go on.. what should we do to anyone who’s a Democrat, ‘liberal,’ or ‘leftist,’ either self-described, or literally registered with a party? Just curious.

  8. I’d like @Walter Barry’s perspective on all this, too. Like, fellas, what else should the rest of us know about where our country and the world is going based on your views? Please, educate us. No, wait, ‘re-educate’ us.

  9. @Frank Crowne @tilted arc defense fund — Y’all are not wrong. And don’t take it too personally. You’re always welcome here. My recommendation is to ‘troll the trolls.’ Engage or ignore. Gary doesn’t micromanage us, so don’t expect anyone to be banned or removed unless it’s truly egregious. I think better to have some crazies on here than to start censoring everyone.

@Lucky Larry — That’s the correct take. Hope she gets real ‘help.’

@Denver Refugee — Stuff like this is so rare. Think, when did you last witness a brawl or cops on a plane? I travel plenty, and I cannot recall. If we’re being honest, it’s the proliferation of smartphones and the ‘attention’ economy that makes misbehavior on planes *seem* more prevalent than it really is. As to your idea (forcing passengers to take a course before flying)… that would be far too cumbersome to ever implement or enforce (the costs clearly would outweigh perceived benefit).

  10. @Coffee Please — Ah, ‘pickled,’ eh? So martinis it is… unless we’re doin’ Bourbon Street style Hurricanes and handgra.. nevermind.

  11. Agent 47 is most displeased.

@Coffee Please — Ah yes, the “bot test”! (I think comments are showing up delayed today for whatever reason)

  12. Just another pilled up, toddler like, potentially drunk, crazed lunatic flying the friendly skies.

  13. Think, when did you last witness a brawl or cops on a plane? I travel plenty, and I cannot recall.

Open, outright fights? I haven’t either, I’ll admit. I’ve seen a few heated exchanges that I thought were going to escalate, but fortunately didn’t get to that point.

But what I have seen is a general proliferation of people who won’t “pay attention and drop the iPad.” This results in blocked screening lines, blocked boarding and exiting the plane, wasting time by not being prepared, and so forth. Any costs involved with passenger orientation would be more than made up by improving efficiencies across the board.

  14. @Denver Refugee — I highly doubt it; we’re addicted, if not, obsessed with these devices.

    @George N Romey Romey — Cluster B?

  15. @1990: Thought this was blog was up your alley, so I would post what I wanted to say to you yesterday about Malta. Better late than never.
    @1990:
AlanZ doesn’t really care, for two reasons:

    1. With the dramatic increase in tourism in Malta the past few years, stuffing more t.p. into the drain won’t make that much of a diff.

    2. If Delta charges you more than $39 each way for the flight, you won’t be flying here to get drunk and barf on the streets in Paceville. You will probably fly here to learn about a country’s 5,000+ years of heritage, see some mind blowing heritage sites, eat some phenomenal food ( we have six Michelin star restaurants in a country with 500, 000 people), and taste some absolutely incredible wine that you have never heard about since they don’t produce enough to export. Oh, and you will baffled by the Malti language, a mixture of 60% Arabic, Italian, and English. FYI, it is the only language in the world that has a semitic language written with English letters. And the Constitution specifies two official languages: Malti and English.

    3. I had to add this personal reason as well. I don’t plan flying back any time soon. So much to see and do on this side of the world. So, the DL flight is not necessary. Although, if you could send me a pastrami sandwich from Katz, I would appreciate it. And I forgot who I should send those pictures to of inside the LH first class terminal.

  16. I thought of Sara Nelson after reading this post. She once considered arming flight attendants with tasers . shocking words at the time as I am against violence. However incidents like this could make one reconsider. We have moved deeper into a society of unbalanced mental health.

  17. @1990: missed you the other day, so here is response now.

  19. @ Gary — This woman is clearly full of it. Rat poison’s active ingredient is typically Warfarin. A massive dose shouldn’t make you drowsy, but will instead cause massive internal bleeding. I guess if you bleed out in your brain, you might “fall asleep.” Permanently.
