News and notes from around the interweb:
- The British Airways flight attendant who starred in their safety video and found naked and high on meth and amphetamines sitting on the toilet of a San Francisco – London flight received a suspended sentence. “He was also ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £150 in costs after admitting performing an aviation function while impaired by drugs.”
Before the journey, he told colleagues he was suffering stomach cramps but insisted he was fit for duty.
Cabin manager co-workers later found him at the bottom of the stairs “dishevelled, pale, sweaty and erratic”.
He locked himself in a bathroom and, when he emerged, was “completely naked and oblivious” to the fact he had no clothes on, prosecution barrister Natasha Lake said.
- American Airlines is beginning to talk about its 100th anniversary next year. They started talking this up internally with employees, with their ‘forever forward’ slogan, a couple of months ago.
I just wish they’d get their facts right. “We created the first loyalty program” is not true. AAdvantage was the first distance-based airline rewards program that offered free travel. It was the first large-scale computerized mileage program.
West Airlines Travel Pass was segment-based and offered travel credits towards a ticket. Texas International Frequent Flyer didn’t scale. AAdvantage was certainly the first modern frequent flyer program but was not “the first loyalty program.” 1972’s Southwest Sweethearts Club wasn’t even the first…
- Built in 1961.
I found the exact spot in LAX airport where this moment from Airplane! was filmed

One of our reoccurring characters at VFTW. Isn’t it time to bring back the former AA (technically regional) FA who has some… ‘fans’
I just hope the new DCA terminal connects airside with T2 — going through security twice to eat is a nuisance (first world problem).
@1990 — Good recollection! It has been a while hasn’t it, I’m sure she’ll make vftw worthy news soon…
