United — “The Only Perfect Airline in History” — Confiscates Carry-On Bag, Tells Passenger to Pound Sand [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Cut it out. Such a bad customer experience from the greatest airline in the history of the world.

  • American Airlines passenger doesn’t like President Trump anymore.

  • American Airlines should take delivery of some Airbus A318s.. (“Baby bus”)

  • If I were the St. Louis airport, sure, I’d absolutely be replacing the carpet… but overall I’d also be working to keep costs as low as possible – the last thing I’d want is to push away air service (especially low cost carriers, where airport costs are a greater portion of the fare, and more marginal flights).

  • Crocodile Dundee‘s Paul Hogan looking every bit his 86 at LAX airport

  • Yes, that is how this works. Pay more (or even fly frequently enough paying much more over time) and get more – and customers doing so are often paying the freight that justifies the flight, and makes cheap fares filling up the plane that’s flying anyway possible.

  1. Paul is 86. Any day above the dirt at that age is a good one regardless of appearance. BTW, he obviously is still in good health taking all his luggage through LAX at that age. Good for him.

  2. Any airline that flies the unwashed masses around can hardly be categorized as “The Only Perfect Airline in History.”

As commented in a previous article, that distinction should probably go to one of the private-jet providers.

  3. People want Frontier prices but PanAm Clipper services. That guy likely could have taken advantage of a generous upsell and had his steak. And BTW, what airline is serving steak? Particularly if this was (and appears to be) domestic first.

  4. Paul Hogan looks pretty good to me. Trim, sharply dressed, clear eyed. Humping two large bags through the airport. I hope I look like that when I’m 86.

  5. News Flash! A man who was once 46 is now 86, and he once had the physical appearance of a healthy 46 year old and now has the physical appearance of a healthy 86 year old. Also, he doesn’t look solemn as reported in the Sun. Pretty sure I have that same look on my face every time I’m walking through the airport.

  6. I am with George Romey on that one.
People b:tch about food in economy.
Then pay for what you want instead of whining about what you think you deserve.

  7. The airlines are a disgrace. Everyone flies now as if it’s their right and not a privilege. As a result it’s a bus ride in the air.

  8. The STL gate?

#1. Airports are responsible for the upkeep of the terminals & not the airline.
#2. If you think those gates are filthy look at videos of a commercial airplane cabin being taken apart for a “D” check cleaning. And you’ll never set foot on that public bus with wings ever again.
#3. Want to quit eating meat? Just walk through a slaughterhouse once.

  9. On that CLT-DCA ‘text’… is the #45/47 death-cult fever-dream finally starting to break? How could they NOT-SEE it.

    @All Due Respect — Welcome!

  11. @ Gary — I’m with LAX Tom, Paul looks great for 86. I would definitely be thrilled to look that good at that age. Heck, just living to 86 would be incredible to me.
