Hertz Pulls A Seinfeld On Jason Priestley — Took The Reservation, Would Not Hold It [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Hertz strands Jason Priestley just like in a Seinfeld episode. They knew how to take the reservation, they just didn’t know how to hold the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. (HT: Ryan)

@slcairport… reserved a car @hertz and when we got there, no car… and they couldn’t tell me when they would have one… worst rental car experience I’ve ever had… and I’ve been a Hertz Gold member for 25 years… no more…

When I arrived at an airport Hertz location that had dozens of customers waiting on cars, including numerous elite members, I didn’t rely on status. I slipped the clerk $20 and drove away in the only vehicle they had available.

  • A ramper and an airport agent in Santa hats are hugging and kissing for the camera while passengers departed Ryanair from Krakow to Birmingham on Christmas Eve. A third employee in an orange hi-vis jacket takes their photo… (By the way, the plane pushed off just a few minutes late.)

  1. The opposite has happened to me. At two different US airport locations, I have found the CSRs so rude that I abandoned my reservation and Ubered instead. Turns out I’ll pay a lot to avoid dealing with a rude CSR. Because Uber is great, but then there are more Ubers for the rest of the trip.

  2. One time (only) I made a Costco car reservation for Budget. So did everyone else at the Phoenix airport. Line was 100 people long. The Dollar rent a car desk guy next door quietly walked the Budget waiting line and said “I’ll match whatever you paid and I have cars”. I drove out in a very basic Corolla 20 min later.

As far as Vegas, I got past the no coffee in the room thing, but I have never gotten past the charge me for a chair at the pool while also charging me a resort fee or the $800 starting price for a show ticket or the $100 lunch or the $60 Uber to In and Out. I can spend 5 grand on a weekend of nickel and diming in Vegas and be crusty about it for years after or I can go for a week in Europe.

  3. “Why are Las Vegas airport traveler numbers down so significantly?”
Because ppl in LV are rude and disgusting dregs of society

    “Why everyone loves Japan”
Because ppl in Japan are polite and civilized.

This test is easy, didn’t even need to look at the answers.
