This safety announcement caught on video is hilarious. It’s been making the rounds, it must have been posted to blogs and on forums, and yet somehow I haven’t seen it. It’s been viewed on Youtube over 12 million times. Definitely worth watching.
It didn’t get nearly the play but I actually prefer the rapping Southwest flight attendant. But that may just harken back to my memories of when rap involved beat boxing.
Of course, this safety video might be even better.
And I’m not sure anything will ever beat Deltalina‘s safety video (or for that matter, meeting Deltalina in person).
The first great safety announcement I ever heard in person was about 15 years ago, flying on December 23 (not 24th), a riff on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
But the best live demonstration I’ve ever witnessed on a flight was where it was participatory (a passenger blew into the tube). And we landed to the Commodores’ Brick House…

Exactly why I don’t fly on Southwest anymore, Everything including Safety is a joke to them. This is the most unprofessional airline in the world.
I flew MAS Wings a couple of weeks ago, on an ATR 72. I gotta admit, the safety demo was pretty funny. It was the tail end of a three-segment marathon, so I can’t remember all of it, but they had drop down screens that included gems like “in an emergency evacuation, you must take off your high heels, even if they are expensive.”

Ugh. These sorts of demonstrations make me cringe every time, as a passenger or especially a fellow crewmember. Frankly, it’s embarrassing, and these people are never as funny as they think they are.

I appreciate that Southwest gives its employees the latitude to do the safety announcements in such a way that passengers will LISTEN for a change. Crewmembers droning their way through the standard script on more “professional” airlines are not nearly as intelligible as they think they are.
