Enter Here to Win a Free Hilton Hotel Night

Thanks to Hilton Hotels and BoardingArea.com I am giving away a free Hilton hotel night. And this is the official entry thread.

Specifically, I’m offering a Hilton “Be My Guest” free night certificate valid “for one night of complimentary lodging [room and tax only] at any participating Hilton Hotel in the United States” with an expiration of June 30, 2010.

To enter, just leave a comment in this thread! Any comment will do. One entry per person, please.

The contest will run through noon Eastern time on Friday, February 19. And one commenter will be selected at random as the winner. I’ll be traveling when the contest closes but it shouldn’t take long for me to announce who has won.

You have a pretty great shot of winning. I don’t have all that many readers, actually. And everyone can only enter once. So each entry’s odds are pretty darn good. Plus it’s easy to enter, you just have to leave a comment in this thread and make sure you’ve registered with a valid email address when leaving that comment so I can contact you if you win.

Full details on how the contest works, and why I’m running it the way that I am, can be found here.

  1. I bet you will be surprised how many entries you will get! Thanks for a nice giveaway. Cheers.

  2. Gary,

I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and check for updates every day. Keep up the great work!

    David

  3. Gary — if I win, that will be outstanding. If I don’t win, it will be outstanding for someone else!

  4. Gary,

Thanks to Twitter I found a few travellers to follow. So even if this contest didn’t exist, I’m still a reader.

Would be nice to win, though 😛

  5. Would love a getaway right now. I am working two jobs and I desperately need a night away. Thanks!

  6. Hi Gary,

Appreciate all the info you provide in your spare time.

    Here’s my entry.

    Regards,
    JD

  7. I would like to see some analysis of the various hotel/air credit cards and exactly what you could get for the minimum purchase to get bonus miles.

i..e with the AA cards and the minimum $750 in 4 months charge I can get one saver ticket within the USA, for say a $10 in tax (booking online).

What could I get with a HHonors credit card and a minimum required charge for the bonus points? What could I get for a Starwood’s credit card? (With no stays and no status.)

  8. This is a great idea. A few days ago, I had to re-register for Hilton HHonors because I wanted to get the 1000 points that Priority Club was awarding to Hilton HHonors members, and when I went to log in for my HH account, I discovered it was closed due to inactivity. I guess it had been 5 years or more since I registered, and I never had a points-earning stay at Hilton.

  9. HI Gary- Read your blog on Bloglines. Thanks for the post on how to be a Gold Elite without using United – good information.

    Keep up the good work!

    Keith

  10. This is almost as good as a shot at a free lunch…thanks!

“An economist is someone who will tell you tomorrow why what he predicted yesterday did not happen today”

  11. I could certainly use a night away from everything! Family medical issues, dogs, work, etc, etc, etc. Would certainly help to recharge the batteries just to relax and “leave it all behind”

Thank you for the opportunity to enter.

  12. Dear Random Number Generator,

  13. Looks like you’ve got plenty of readers 🙂 especially if you consider that for everyone that actually posts a comment, there are probably a few more that won’t bother.

  14. As an HHonors member for years I look forward to a free night–hopefully at the Rome Airport Hilton! Thanks for the contest.

  15. Thanks again for the tip on Le Meridien Khao Lak and Monty the Tailor a couple of years ago. We enjoyed that trip so much that we’re off to Bangkok and Chiang Rai in May and staying at the Le Meriden in Chiang Rai. Keep blogging and we’ll keep reading.

  16. It would be oh sooo nice to have a free night’s stay at a Hilton, could do a stay cation down the road.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  17. Could come in handy – been stranded in DC since Sunday waiting for flights to resume! Thanks for the opportunity.

  18. I’ve read your and other blogs here on Boarding Area a few times before (linked from the Best Rate Guarantee blog), but certainly I have never before been so motivated to register and post a comment.

  19. Thanks for this. A lot of what we do is helping people listen to what their customer’s are saying. This type of interaction is helpful!

  20. Now that it’s been advertised all over Flyertalk one’s chances at winning are seriously reduced.
    But you never know…

  21. perfect for a night in DC visiting the cherry blossoms in the spring time…
thanks for the opportunity to participate gary!

  22. Thanks for offering this. I’d love to surprise my grandson on the opposite coast with a visit when he gets home from Afghanistan; a Hilton stay could make it work out.

  23. Thanks Gary! And great blog.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I entered in another thread but I guess it was the wrong one.

  24. I think you will be getting a lot more readers now. Your FT contributions are very valuable already!

  25. Thanks for the opportunity. For not having *all that many readers*, you may have to re-evaluate. Over 300 entries already!
No time to read just now, glimpsed and was impressed. I’ll be back!

  26. Hi Glef:

I didn’t know about this blog, so now I have something new to look at. Good luck everyone.

  27. I read the blog daily, and you’ve helped me immensely on learning about the ins and outs of mileage programs.

  28. I’ve got my Hilton gold card but I have never, ever won a contest. Why not give it a chance today. Thank you.

  29. Hmmm….I’m # 355…..maybe my chances winning here are bigger than winning the lottery!?

  30. Hey– how can you beat a contest as simple as this? Hey– not a bad blog site either, freebies or not! I will come back from time to time….

  31. Hi,

Hereby my post to the thread. I would like to have the chance as a non US traveller to join. This could be a great one for taking the wife to US for a long weekend.

And also a cool blog and thanks for doing the advertising at FlyerTalk.

    /Henrik

  32. Thanks for having this giveaway. I could really use the certificate with an upcoming trip to DC.

  33. Thanks, Gary!

If I win, this will really come in handy as I visit prospective grad schools this spring.

  34. It looks like your offer has generated quite a number of responses. Thanks for making this available to your readers Gary.

  35. I would love a free night. I have an overnight layover with my wife, in Chicago on the way back from Cabo San Lucas. The Hilton is right on property at Ohare!!!

  36. A very generous offer I heard about via Randy Peterson at FlyerTalk.

Thanks for the opportunity to enter and hopefully win!

    Steve32

  37. FTW! Seems like you have yourself a mighty great post. So many comments!

Good work and thanks for being so generous! 😀

  38. although i am phasing out my HHonors points, a free nite is a free nite – thanx for the opportunity

  39. Great blog, and awesome offer!

A free night would cut down on out of pocket expenses for an overnight in NYC in April for a stopover [mandatory due to flight schedules on an award ticket] in “The City.”

I’m taking my mom on an award trip overseas— it will be her first trip outside North America in over 30 years.

P.S. First time commentor, frequent reader of your blog.

  40. Will I get stay credit if I use it? Can I get an upgrade with it? Will the shuttle be on time?

  41. Great idea Gary. I’ve enjoyed your blog ever since you gave up posting at each 1000 post milestone. Oldtimers remember those threads!

  42. Being that I’ve never won anything except my birth rights(I forgot the gov’t won that), I’m allowing u the official duty 2 make me the winner of anything. Besides that, it takes Hilton 4 stays 4 one free night. Of course u & I can eliminate those 4 2gether.

  43. Thanks for the offer, Gary. I’m a longtime reader and very much appreciate your work on this blog.

    Tom

  44. Great site – you should have tons of readers. Thanks for the opportunity and some great travel info as well.

  45. Oh – Please pick me :). After a record snowfall day in DFW – It would be nice to win a free Hilton night to go somewhere warm, dry and tropical!

  46. I’d just started checking out your blog recently and this is a great introduction and a clever promotion….Thanks!

  47. What a nice offer! I love reading your blog – judging from the 500+ responses you’ve had here, I’d say you have more readers than you think!

  48. Hello Gary. I love your blog; thanks for being so helpful. Please enter me in the Hilton contest. Thanks.

  49. Awesomeness….I need to win because I want to use it in Tokyo, and I can’t afford it otherwise! My $0.02 is that the Embassy Suites in Lubbock, TX is the most underrated HH property around. Thanks!!!!

  50. Gary – very kind offer! Your site happens to be the one I visit most for travel deals – tks again!

  51. Thanks for all your contributions to flyertalk, and your great blog…now give me the free night already! 🙂

  52. Hello,
I appreciate the work that you go through to create a blog on travel. I started as an auditor in 1975 when there were very few programs in existence. It seems the late 1980’s began a spree of programs and I am all glad for that.
    Best wishes with your blog.

  53. Hi!

Thanks for the gesture. It would be perfect to celebrate my birthday in Hilton on 29th March…

    Merci pour advance!

  54. Really cool blog! You must indeed have some sort of “esp!” I truly am in need of the certificate, and was just wondering how I would obtain one–perhaps luck will be on my side! Seriously, thank you ever so kindly for the opportunity to win!

  55. Gary, My morning routine: Wake up. turn on computer, kiss husband, pour a cup of coffee, head over to View from the WIng. No kidding.
    Thanks for the contest.
    Nancy

  56. Thanks for the chance to enter. My commnet is about the Hilton Honors program, of which I am a loyal member: you need a degree in statistics from MIT to figure out actually get a free night!!! Oh, and watch out…those points expire before you know it.!!!! Still and all, we stay at a lot of Hilton properties, because there are a whole lot of types of hotels and those points do add up, so why switch to somewhere else and start over again…..

  57. Looks like you have a few followers with 638 posts +1…! 🙂
Keep up the good work. Enjoy reading everyday!
Oh, and look fwd to winning the Hilton Cert too…! 🙂

  58. WOW this is huge now! I think I commented on the earlier thread you did about this. Thanks for the kind offer. Consider this my one time entry :).

  59. I just started reading your website and look forward to seeing it every morning. Thanks.

  60. I’ve started reading your blog in the last few months – and it’s great to get so many little tips and offers related to programmes where I pay so little attention – you’re keeping me in bonus miles!

    Well done!

  61. Gary, thank you for your generosity. I truly admire all that you do for other aspiring travelers.

I read this blog everyday, and I have learned a lot from your experiences. Thanks again.

  62. Wow, from the number of it seems like you have a lot of readers. And understandanbly so for such a nice blog.

In any case, I’m still an Hilton fan so of course I would like to be entered into this contest.

    Thank you

  63. I love the title “View from the Wing”. Thanks for the contest. Please consider this my entry.

  64. For this I’ll stop lurking. You have a great blog. Thanks for alerting us to the bonus miles from various airlines!

  65. Just got a great priced ticket from NYC to CMH but alas, a car rental seems cost prohibitive. Love this site.

  66. You may not have a LOT of followers, but those of us that do follow you quite enjoy your blog! 🙂

  67. not a bad response for a site that doesn’t have “many” readers…..tee hee….and here is my comment 🙂

  68. Wow, a little love frorm Randy sure changes the odds! Would love to win anyway — thanks for setting this up.

  69. This is really very generous of you. Many thanks for making FT even more of a community.

  70. Even if not many people read your blog, you can still make a difference bfor those of us who do read it. Keep up the good work! And thanks for sharing!

  71. Hope you pick me as I’m a student and love to have an opportunity to spend a night at a Hilton 🙂

  72. Good going Hilton! Since you posted this offer on flyertalk, you will get thousands of entries and odds will decrease. It is still fun to think about this and post!

  73. Pick Me…Pretty Please. Also, ask Hilton why my HHonors Account has expired twice in the last 5 years ? Priority/IC Ambassador and Marriott Memberships are good for life. I discovered I had a Priority Club Membership from 1984 when I checked into a Holiday Inn in Sarejevo in 2003.

Good luck on your travel blog site !!!

  74. Gleff… great site and really enjoying terrific interesting writing. Keep up the good work and have a MEOWY day!

  75. A free night at a Hilton! I will put it to good use in Hawaii! I need to get away from this cold NJ winter!

  76. Thanks for holding this giveaway! I enjoy reading your blog very much. Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Chinese New Year!

  77. This is a very generous giveaway…I would love to be included in the drawing for the Hilton night! Thanks!

  79. this would be so amazing for my boyfriend and i to stay overnight in new york city for a weekend!

  80. Oooo I’ve never stayed at the Hilton before. Thanks for the opportunity. Just found this blog!

  81. I really enjoy staying at Hilton’s. It’s a nice clean safe place to stay. They have nice exercise rooms and pools. The resturants have also been very good. I love room service!

  82. Did you know TSA considers an etcha-sketch a laptop, and needs to be removed from carry on’s? Now I know what model laptop Bernie Madoff used to calculate returns for his investors….

  83. There can be only one winner. And, that’s me, so look no further! The other entrants are wanna be’s!

  84. Nice way to get new readers and to reward them with a chance at a free Hilton night! Thanks Gary–Mary Anne aka Silver Springer

  85. Only way for me to win is if I enter.
If I do win how amazing is that?

I can start my own trip off maybe to San Francisco and take a weekend off from life here.

    Thanks!

  86. Thanks for offering up the free Hilton night. And thanks for offering us another travel resource.

  87. Thanks for this wee competition, looking to go to Amsterdam in June, would love this.
Hi from us in Bonnie Scotland x

  88. Thank you for the offer. I’m taking my 13 year old daughter on her first shopping trip to Union Square and any money saved would be great!

  89. I am going to tug at your heart strings in hopes of getting the free night… I just used all of my USAir miles to book a flight for my boyfriend’s sister to come visit us in America from the UK. She’s preggers so we have to fly her in first class. So I am out of miles (because the rest of them went to sending my sister to Las Vegas) and I’m out of Hilton points because I just booked rooms in Boston for all of us to go away for the weekend! So I have been so generous that there is nothing left for me, and my boss is cutting back work travel pretty badly! I need a free night please!!

  90. Hey, does my being in the Army (i.e. persistently and willingly putting myself in harm’s way to protect our right to have such contests), give me a leg up? 🙂

  91. Its a beautiful night in Hiltons Neighborhood a beautiful night for a stay won’t you please won’t you please please won’t you “Be My Guest”

  92. Gary, you have plenty of readers! I’ve been a “stalker reader” for several years. Thank you.

  93. gleff,

You are wrong. You do have lots of readers! Approaching 1200 and counting on.

But i still hope that i can win the free Hilton hotel NIGHT! 🙂

  94. We’re off to the US for our babymoon 9(final holiday before the baby comes along) and would love to use the free night.
    Thanks
    Dan

  95. long time reader, first time poster. i really enjoy your blog; i stumbled across it one day (either from flyertalk or frugal travel guy) and have it bookmarked since. thanks for the chance to win; I think you have a lot of readers!

  96. Thanks for the generous gesture, Gary. I’ve spread your blog to others who have benefited as I have.

  97. Thanks for offering this wonderful chance at winning a free night! 2009 came to a close in an unexpected tough way with the new year starting out with new challenges.

  98. I really need to win, my bed at home is awful and a good night’s sleep (not associated with work) would be awesome!

  99. thanks for the sweeps. we could use a free night at the hilton when we visit the cleveland clinic, when my wife goes there to find out just exactly whats wrong with her.

  100. I look forward to working with you to plan my next trip, which is to Russia. Trying to figure out the various mileage options makes me crazy!

  101. My hubby and I could use a night away from frequent flier junior! And maybe we could get another “Boarding Area” pen, as mine was appropriated by my seat mate last month who was filling out his customs form and forgot to return it.
    I LOVED that pen!

  102. I don’t know Gary… Looks like 1301 readers of your blog is more than just “not that many readers” ! That’s okay though. I enjoy your blog on twitter tremendously. Keep up the good work (and writing 😉 )

  103. Hi Marcia in 1302 – Gary was right – there’s only 13 other people entering, each with 100 email addresses…

  104. Do the Segway tour in Rome! You will not regret it. The juxtaposition of cruising along ancient roads on modern conveyances while hearing the history via headphones is just really fun. BTW: Not for the young only. The young at heart can fully enjoy. (We are 62!)

  105. A travel blog recommended by Flyertalk sounds like a good bet to me 🙂 Nice incentive, nonetheless!

  106. Gary, thanks very much for your Blog— it’s one of my few “must checks” every week.
